Introduction
Named after one of its popular politicians, Mississippi’s Percy Quin State Park is a pleasant outdoor park encompassing 1,700 acres just a short distance from McComb, in Pike County. Established in 1935, this is one of the nine parks in the state that remind us of the tremendous developmental efforts of the Civilian Corporation Corps during the Great Depression. But you're in for more than just history when you visit Percy Quin. The 490-acre Lake Tangipahoa built inside the park steals the spotlight with its panoramic beauty and immense opportunities of leisure and recreation in the form of boating, water-skiing, and fishing. Other exciting options include picnic spots, a swimming pool, playgrounds, tennis courts, and a game room. A golf course called Quail Hollow spanning 6,754 yards is also part of the park, as is a chapel and a conference room. The landscape of this gorgeous scenery is characterized by majestic loblolly pine and magnolia trees, rolling hills, and fragrant flowers.
Featuring a mild climate all year round, Percy Quin State Park is generally considered suitable for a visit at any time of the year. Still, RVers should exercise caution and keep an eye to the sky during the late winter and early spring because of the frequency of winter hurricanes and tornadoes. All RVers should carry a weather-band radio, regardless of where you travel, but it is especially important in places that see the quick onset of inclement weather. May through October is the park’s peak season with many exciting events like Camp Sunshine and Multiple Sclerosis Tour for Cure taking place on an annual basis. The peak season usually extends up to late October for Halloween celebrations. You can drop in for a visit in your RV anytime, as the park is open daily.

Located in southern Mississippi on the southwestern side of McComb, Percy Quinn State Park is easily reached by Interstate 55. The park is just 1.5 hours away from New Orleans in Louisiana and is located 80 miles away from Jackson, the capital of Mississippi, to its south.
The park is easy to navigate with the help of maps, which provide clear-cut instructions and directions. All the campsites, whether primitive, developed, or group, are located in the wooded areas near Lake Tangipahoa. Cabins and cottages are also located in the woods near Tangipahoa. The motel can be found near the convention center, and the golf villas are near the Quail Hollow Golf Course. One out of four picnic pavilions is located on a hill overlooking the lake, while the rest are built in the woods. The swimming pool is just across the hill and picnic pavilion number one. The park office is located inside a historic visitor center just across the lake, and the camp store has been built inside the RV campground. There are also numerous comfort stations spread throughout the park.
Parking
There are lots of convenient parking options scattered throughout the park, including at the entrance, campgrounds, and lodges, which also support towed parking. The maximum RV length is 40 feet. Make sure that you don’t drive over 25 miles per hour inside the park, as this is the posted speed limit. Only registered campers are allowed to bring their vehicles inside the park and especially in the campgrounds.

Reservations camping
The Campground at Percy Quin State Park
Percy Quin State Park is abounding with impressive camping facilities and amenities all year round. The park is an absolute RV camper's delight and is built in the woods near Lake Tangipahoa. 20 out of 100 hookup sites are premium, facing the serene views of the lake. The developed RV campsites feature 30 and 50 amp full hookups. There are also four modern restrooms with hot showers located all over the campground, and a dump station is situated near the campground entrance. RV camping amenities at this campground also include picnic tables, a barbecue grill, and fire rings. Each campsite can accommodate a maximum of eight people and two vehicles. If you forgot anything, you can likely buy it from the camp store nearby. All campsites can be reserved 48 hours in advance, and same-day reservations are also allowed. RV and trailer lengths are limited to 40 feet, and pets are welcome to stay with you at your campground.

There are first-come, first-served options available at the campground as well, but reservations are recommended. You can make reservations on the day of your arrival. First-come, first-served camping has the same amenities as reservation camping, so however you plan your RV trip, you will have what you need to feel comfortable during your stay.

You can reserve a cabin, a cottage, a motel room, or even a golf villa. They are all available right here in the park for your enjoyment and convenience, so you can pick which one suits you. If you still want to have that woodsy experience, a cabin or cottage is the way to go. But if you want something a little more luxurious, look into reserving a motel room. The golf villa is perfect for anyone coming specifically for the golfing experience.
Off-site Campgrounds
If all the sites are taken at Percy Quin State Park, you won't have to go far to find somewhere to park the motorhome for the night. Homochitto National Forest sits around an hour to the northwest of the park and offers water and electrical hookups at 22 RV and trailer friendly sites. Bogue Chitto State Park is about an hour south of Percy Quin and offers over 80 RV sites to guests with a combination of water, electric, and full hookup sites.
Those in search of a more luxurious camping experience will find several RV resorts in the surrounding area. These private parks afford the utmost comfort for their guests will full hookups, large parking pads, and flush toilets. Some even offer swimming pools, playgrounds, game rooms, and laundry facilities.

Golfing
Percy Quin’s Quail Hollow Golf Course is a Heaven on Earth for golf enthusiasts. Fully developed and modernly built, this golf course welcomes visitors all year long. Quail Hollow stretches up to 6,754 yards in the lush greenery and rolling terrains of the park. The 18-hole Championship Course at Quail Hollow is a show-stealer and has been offering premium golfing pleasures since 1996. The Championship Course has a slope rating of 121 and a USGA rating of 72, so if you packed your clubs in your camper, head over to this fantastic golf course to play a round or two.
Sports and Games
Percy Quin State Park has no shortage of fun and recreation, both indoor and outdoor. The park features five lighted tennis courts for sports enthusiasts in general and tennis lovers in particular. The park’s Visitor Center boasts a game room where you can choose among snooker and various coin-operated games. This indoor game area is perfect for those that are looking to get a break from the outdoors. For kids that can’t get enough of the outdoors, one of the comfort stations has a playground situated nearby, which has swings and slides for endless fun.
Picnicking
Percy Quin State Park is bustling with options for outdoor parties and picnics for you to enjoy during your RV vacation. The park’s picnic ground is characterized by the woody shades of pine and magnolia trees and open areas for field play. The picnic area is available only on a first-come, first-served basis with picnic tables and complimentary barbecue grills. Four picnic pavilions inside the picnic area are up for reservations year-round. The pavilion number one is located on a hill overlooking the lake and provides a fireplace, barbecue grills, picnic tables, food preparation area, and restrooms. Pavilion numbers two and three are located in the playground inside the day-use areas, and pavilion number four is located across from the Visitor Center. Pavilions two, three, and four are wooded structures providing electricity and water. Pavilion number four provides electricity but no water.

When you bring the Sprinter Van to Percy Quin State Park, don't forget to pack the camera. Whether you're interested in the historic construction completed by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, or if you prefer the colorful backdrop of rolling hills, magnolia trees, and the beautiful Lake Tangipahoa, there is plenty worth photographing. Walk along the nature trails for views of the lake, or keep your eyes peeled and camera ready for some of the park's full-time residents, including alligators, cranes, and deer.

Hiking and Sightseeing
The park’s natural scenery, consisting of seasonal flowers, loblolly pines, and magnolia trees, is sure to cast a spell on any RVer. The best way to explore the park’s scenic beauty is through its hiking trails. The park has a four-mile nature trail that’s easy enough for anyone to hike, even the kids. Pets are also allowed on this trail that slowly transitions into the park’s woodlands. Another four-mile trail is on a paved road starting from the park’s nature trail around Lake Tangipahoa. There are wonderful opportunities available for wildlife viewing all year round, and if you're lucky, you might spot some while you wander the trails. Notable wildlife at the park includes deer, geese, squirrels, cranes, and alligators. During your sightseeing tour, you can also choose to stop by a beautiful little wayside chapel located in the park, and in the summer months, you can stop by for a non-denominational Sunday service.
Water Sports
There are lots of options to indulge in water activities when you take the Airstream to the Percy Quin State Park. An Olympic-size swimming pool is located near picnic pavilion number one, making it easy to beat the summer heat during the peak season. Water and jet skiing are also permitted at the park’s 490 acres of the freshwater Lake Tangipahoa. On the lake, you'll also find a boat launch and a 36 slip marina with electrical hookups available for use.
Events and Festivals
Many events and festivals are celebrated annually during the peak season. The activities enhance the cheerfulness and high spirits at Percy Quin State Park. One of the favorite festivals the park holds is Camp Sunshine. Sponsored by the Junior Auxiliary of McComb, Camp Sunshine is held annually on the 2nd of July for the physically disabled and mentally challenged guests at the park. The guests indulge in games, talent shows, Special Olympics, horse and boat rides, and much more. Halloween is also celebrated in full swing at the park with its Halloween at Percy Quin meant exclusively for the registered campers, making it the perfect time to bring your campervan. Another notable park festival is the two-day event MS Tour for Cure, a 150-mile bicycle ride aiming to raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Fishing
The nearly 500-acre Lake Tangipahoa is the perfect place for anglers to spend the day. Common catches include Florida bass, bluegill, white crappie, and redear sunfish. There are boat launches and a marina located in the park, and a fish cleaning station is also available for use. You will need a current Mississippi fishing license if you plan on casting out during your stay at Percy Quin State Park.
