Introduction

Sitting on the shores of Lake of the Woods and set within huge towering trees of White Pine is Sioux Narrows Provincial Park, a jewel among RV camping destinations. Located about 5 km (3 miles) east of Sioux Narrows, along Trans-Canada Highway 71, Ontario, this provincial park on the edge of the Canadian Shield and bedrock outcrops offers memorable experiences and wonderful recreational opportunities including hiking, biking, fishing, boating, canoeing, bird viewing, cross-country skiing, swimming, and other fun activities. The park is globally renowned for its walleye fishing.

Facilities and amenities available at Sioux Narrows Provincial Park include RV campsites, with about a third equipped with electric hookups, fish cleaning station, water taps, pit/vault toilets, group camps, restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, wheelchair accessible areas, picnic shelter, playground, boat launch, dump station, and a Park Office.

Sioux Narrows Provincial Park is a very good place for RV campers to begin exploring the 4,047 sq. km (1,563 sq. mile) Lake of the Woods with over 14,000 islands and 105,000 km (65,255 miles) of shoreline.

Established in 1957, Sioux Narrows Provincial Park is the site where the battle between the Ojibway and Sioux Warriors occurred.

Located about 5 km (3 miles) east of Sioux Narrows, along Trans-Canada Highway 71, Sioux Narrows Provincial Park is a simple drive-in park, easy to access by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles. Within the park also, accessibility and navigation are easy as local paved roads connect the park’s sites of interest. There are no driving restrictions within Sioux Narrows Provincial Park.

Parking

There aren’t many parking options for RV campers in Sioux Narrows Provincial Park, as the park features only one parking area for RVs, trailers, and cars. However, RV campers at the park can park their rigs at their respective campsites. Overnight parking is available for RV campers.

Sioux Narrows Campground in Sioux Narrows Provincial Park features 71 campsites available for RVs and tents. 17 campsites in the campground are equipped with electric hookups for RVs. RV length limit at the campground is 32 ft (10 m). Amenities and facilities at the campground include fish cleaning station, water taps, pit/vault toilet, group camps, restroom with shower, laundry facilities, wheelchair accessible area, and boat launch.

57 campsites in the campground are reservable, while 14 campsites are available on first-come first-served basis.

Off-Season

Cross-country Skiing

Cross-country ski tours are available during winter across the park and the surrounding areas. These tours are conducted along the ski trail that begins at the entrance gate of Sioux Narrows Provincial Park.

Swimming

Sioux Narrows Provincial Park features many waterfront sites that offer RV campers great swimming opportunities while at their campsites. Even more, a sandy beach is available near the campground for campers to enjoy family swimming.

Birding

Migratory birds are commonly found in Sioux Narrows Provincial Park, particularly the large American White Pelicans. As a result, bird lovers visit Sioux Narrows Provincial Park to enjoy the view of these lovely birds and others that nest in the park.

In-Season

Boating/Canoeing

Boating on Lake of the Woods at Sioux Narrows Provincial Park offers RV campers some of the best scenic views of Northwestern Ontario, making boating a must-do activity for RV campers at the park. Whether sailing, paddling or cruising, the adventure is fun-filled. A boat ride down the lake takes campers to pictographs that are centuries old. Canoe rental facilities are available at the park office.

Fishing

Renowned internationally as a walleye fishing zone, Lake of the Woods in Sioux Narrows Provincial Park is a great destination for fishing. Besides walleye, other fish species available for RV campers to catch in the park include smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. A fishing license is required for RV campers to enjoy angling in the park, and these licenses can be obtained in the nearby Sioux Narrows Town.

Hiking/Biking

Sioux Narrows Provincial Park features three hiking trails for RV campers; Deer Path Trail, Lookout Trail, and Fern Valley Trail. Deer Path Trail is a 600 m (1,968 ft) long trail from the campground to the Park Office, while Lookout Trail is 1.5 km (0.9 mile) long and offers RV campers the opportunity to hike to a view of Lake of the Woods. Fern Valley Trail, a 1.6 km (1 mile) trail, connects to a trail system which is outside the boundary of the park. All three trails in the park are easy to hike.
