Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Plan an RV trip to San Antonio to visit Six Flags Fiesta Texas. They’ve got 200 acres with over 50 rides, nine roller coasters, and a water park.

Event information

Theme parks are incredibly fun, and it seems like they get more popular every year with all the parks trying to outdo each other. Six Flags has 21 parks in the United States, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas is often a favorite. In fact, it has been listed as number three out of all 21 parks.

One of the top-rated thrill rides is Scream, which takes you on a 205-foot drop to the ground. It also has the world’s largest rocket blast water coaster. Some of the other thrill rides the park is known for include the SkyScreamer, Superman Krypton Coaster, and the Iron Rattler.

Six Flags also has a special section just for the kids that boasts over a dozen rides for the little tikes. Let them take a ride on Yosemite Sam’s Wacky Wagons or get in a big piece of fruit for a spin in the sky on Up, Up, & Away. Then they can go on Daffy’s School Bus Express for an airbus tour before taking a dip in the Pirate Ship Play Zone water ride. The water park has its own 15 rides, including the White Water Canyon and Typhoon Twister. This is an excellent way to cool off in the Texas heat.

When you get hungry, you’ll find more than two dozen food vendors in the park serving all kinds of food. Guests can get burgers, nachos, chicken, and even roasted corn and veggie burgers for those who want to eat healthily while on vacation. Of course, you can still find the typical carnival fare like funnel cakes, cotton candy, and popcorn. Sit down and relax at one of the shows before heading back out to the rides again.

Tickets

No matter when you are planning your visit, it usually pays to buy your tickets to Six Flags Fiesta Texas online for a better deal. Although prices may vary, recently, they have gone for about $55 per ticket if you get a one-day pass. For those who plan to visit more than once or are going to Six Flags Theme Parks in other areas, the season pass would pay for itself. In recent years, they have gone for around $75, and then it's free to enter any of the 21 parks throughout the country.

Transportation

Driving

Only 17 miles from Downtown San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas is just off of I-10, where you can get to it easily no matter what you are driving or where your journey originates. While you are in town, stop by one of the attractions in San Antonio like the Alamo Museum, or the Tower of the Americas. Be sure to take a walk along the San Antonio River, where they have a promenade filled with shops and eateries.

Parking areas

Reserve parking online before heading to the park and you will not only get a better deal, but you will also have peace of mind knowing you don’t have to search for a parking spot. You may also want to consider leaving your rig at your San Antonio RV campground you are staying at and taking public transportation since rig parking at the park may be limited.

Public Transportation

Hop on the VIA Metropolitan Transit (bus 93) to Six Flags Fiesta Texas from anywhere downtown on TX-94. You can also catch this bus from Crossroads Mall, where you can leave the RV if you would rather not park in Six Flags parking lot. It is free to park at the mall, but you will pay a fee to park at Six Flags, and the bus will drop you off right at the park.

Where to stay

Onsite

Unfortunately, there are no campgrounds for visitors to stay at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. You may be able to find an overnight parking lot near the park, but not on the Six Flags property. However, you can find plenty of options to camp in the San Antonio area.

Nearby

Visitors to Six Flags Fiesta Texas have quite a few choices of campgrounds from privately owned camps to state parks. The San Antonio / Alamo KOA Holiday Campground is just 20 miles to the southeast and has 300 sites that can accommodate rigs up to 90 feet. Some of their amenities include full or partial utility hookups, a fishing lake, pool, Wi-Fi, a snack bar, and a playground for the kiddos. Guadalupe River State Park is 25 miles to the northeast, and they have 85 campsites with water and electric. Some of their sites are up to 93 feet in length.

Getting around

Although Six Flags Fiesta Texas is huge, they do not have an onsite shuttle service. However, if you have mobility issues, you are welcome to bring a wheelchair or electric convenience vehicle (ECV) with you. Otherwise, the park rents them just inside the front gate. Strollers are also welcome. Guests can also take the train to get from one place to another. Be sure to pack your comfy shoes, though, because foot travel is the primary mode of transportation within the park.

What to pack

Clothing

Since it gets pretty hot in San Antonio, be sure to pack some of your summer clothes like shorts and tank tops. A hat with a wide brim is also a good idea and sunglasses as well. Don’t plan on wearing sandals or flip-flops that can fall off or you will not be allowed to get on some of the rides. If you are coming in April or October, you’ll probably need a hoodie or jacket too since it can get chilly after the sun goes down.

Gear

For your trip to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, do not bring a cooler or any food or drinks with you. You are, however, allowed to bring a backpack, fanny pack, or purse in with you if you need them. You will not be allowed on many of the rides with these items, though, so be sure to rent a locker for your pack when you get to the park. Lockers are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Health & Safety

Pack some small bottles of sunscreen and bug spray to carry with you at the park. Even if you apply these before going into the park, it usually dissipates over time or when you get wet, which will happen if you go on the water rides. Be sure to drink plenty of water and if you get too hot, take a break in a shop, restaurant, or show. Remember to pack a first-aid kit for to leave in your camper just in case.

Where to eat

Cooking

Depending on which campground you choose, you may be cooking indoors or out. While many have utilities to hook up to, some only have campfire pits with grills for cooking. If you would rather use your own camp stove or grill, that is fine also. Don’t forget to pack the essentials like trash bags, cooking spray, aluminum foil, and cooking utensils.

Restaurants

If you cannot find what you want to eat at any of the food vendors at Six Flags Fiesta Texas or just want to enjoy a meal, take a short drive up I-10, and you will see over a dozen places to choose from along the way. From Italian fare to steaks and potatoes, the choices are plentiful. If you head down TX-1604, you can find about a half dozen more places to chow down.

Vendors

If you are into healthy food, try a veggie burger, salad, or orange chicken. They even have gluten-free pizza and three pizzerias at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Guests may also find a Mexican stand, snack kiosks, and tons of places to get funnel cake. If you want a different kind of sweet treat, Six Flags Fiesta Texas has four ice creameries. After you eat, head to the shops for some unique items you cannot get anywhere else.

Safety

Security

The park is security conscious at every level, from scanning guests at the gates to patrolling the park to watch for suspicious activity. If you don’t want to have to make a trip back to the rig, don’t bring anything with you that is on the no-no list. There is a full list online, but the most common include glass, alcohol, weapons, and selfie sticks. Be ready to go through the metal detector when it’s your turn so everyone can get into the park and enjoy themselves.

Weather

Texas can be one of the hottest states in the country, so it should not surprise you that San Antonio can be extremely hot in the summer. They open in the spring and stay open until December, so if you do not like the heat, make your plans to come in one of the cooler months. March, April, November, and December usually stay in the 70s for highs and 50s for lows. All the other months are typically in the upper 80s or 90s with lows in the middle 70s.

Medical

Whether you have just a small cut or a major injury, you can see the medics at the first-aid station. There are trained and licensed medical professionals there to help you no matter what the issue, and if they cannot help, they will get you to the hospital where you can get the treatment you need. There are first-aid stations in Spassburg by Sangerfest Halle and in the water park.
