Getting Outdoors

Mountain biking is extremely popular among visitors camping at Devil's Den State Park. The Butterfield Trail, stretching for 15 miles through the Ozark Mountains, offers hours of fun. The park's cross-country bike trails feature steep ascents and descents, making them perfect for those seeking a challenge. The Devil's Den Trail stretches for a mile and a half and leads to the Devil's Den Cave and Twin Falls. The park is home to many other caves as well, but practice caution while exploring, and be sure to bring a flashlight to see the natural limestone and sandstone. One area has been deemed the largest of such sandstone areas in the United States. There are picnic tables along the route, so you and the family can take a break and have a relaxing lunch.

If you're into horseback riding, the three equestrian trails, equaling about 20 miles in total, may pique your interest. Each of the three trails, including the Gorley King Trail at seven miles long, begin and end at the horse camp, but venture into the park's majestic surroundings.

Lake Devil is, unsurprisingly, a big draw to Devil's Den State Park. Canoes and other watercraft are available to rent right on-site, so exploring the lake is not only fun, but easy and convenient.
