Whether fishing from the eight miles of shoreline or a boat upon the water, Donner Lake is a haven for expert and beginner anglers alike.
Camping At Donner Lake
For those wishing to experience motorhome camping near Donner Lake, then it is advisable to choose a campground within the grounds of Donne Memorial State Park. Ridge Campground comprises of 59 sites that are able to accommodate RV’s. Although no hookups are provided here, Ridge Campground does have hot showers, restrooms, picnic tables, and food lockers. If you wish to be as close to Donner Lake as possible, then Splitrock Campground is the best choice. As well as great proximities to the lake, showers, restrooms, and picnic tables are again provided.
Exploring The Area
Only a short drive from Donner Lake is the quaint town of Truckee, no visit to this humble town would be complete without a visit to the Old Truckee Jail Museum. The museum is one of only a few surviving 19th-century jailhouses of its kind in the west and one of the few remaining original buildings in Truckee. The museum also offers an interesting tour and includes a wide variety of local historical artifacts and photographs on its displays. The museum is open each weekend all summer, until Labor Day.
