This region of California is most well known for its mountains, the Cascade Range. These mountains are quite accessible, even in a motorhome rental from Dunsmuir. Some of the closest mountain peaks to the city include Mount Shasta and the Mount Eddy, both of which offer gorgeous views throughout the year. During the winter time, these mountains are often snow covered, but in the summer they are great for biking, hiking, and sweeping panoramic views. Although the Cascade Range dominates the landscape, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest contains many of the trees that help make the landscape a rich green. The forest can be accessed in many places, the majority of which can be driven to in your camper rental from Dunsmuir. This forest is rich with hiking trails, many of which allow for days of exploration in the forest. Contained within the forest boundaries is Lake Shasta, a clear blue mountain lake that is ideal for swimming, boating, and fishing. To explore a lake closer to Dunsmuir head north to Lake Siskiyou, which is next to the town of Mount Shasta. This lake has a boat launch, a dam, and is backdropped by mountains when you view it from certain angles. Visitors to this body of water can enjoy kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, and fishing when the weather is right. Further north on Interstate 5 is the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument Nature Preserve. This nature preserve differs from national forests slightly because of the regulations that govern it, but when you rent a motorhome in Dunsmuir to check it out, these regulations probably won’t limit your enjoyment. Animals are more protected in this preserve, making the chances of seeing wildlife higher, and the many hiking trails that are interspersed throughout the land can entertain guests for hours on end.
