Getting Outdoors

There are two distinctive caves in Pinnacles National Park which are open to the public during specific times of the year. Be sure to verify when the caves are open, and then plan a week or so of RV camping at Pinnacles National Park. Bear Gulch Cave hosts the largest maternity colony of Townsend’s big-eared bats between San Francisco and Mexico. The bats give birth here in the spring and summer. The cave closes when the maternity colony is still present so the bats are undisturbed. The Balconies Cave usually remains open when the Bear Gulch Cave is closed.
