The Great Outdoors

West Vancouver may be a suburb of the big city of Vancouver, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have a wealth of outdoor activities to participate in. With ready access to both ocean and mountains, how could it not? From here, you’re ideally placed to take your West Vancouver RV rental to the famous ski resort at Whistler. And if you want to explore a little farther out of town, it’s only a short ferry ride to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.

The surrounding mountains are part of what defines West Vancouver, and so it's well worth heading up to Cypress Mountain above the city. In the winter, the thick snow that covers the summit is ideal for skiing and snowboarding. And in the summer, there's mountain biking, hiking, and wildlife viewing to enjoy. Plus, at any time of year, you'll be treated to a jaw-dropping view across the city of Vancouver, Vancouver Island, and neighboring Washington. Cypress Provincial Park contains the mountain and its sprawling forests and is a great place to explore at any time of year.

For a more maritime experience, you could visit the tiny community of Horseshoe Bay on the edge of West Vancouver and take the ferry to Bowen Island. The crossing only takes 20 minutes, and the sheltered sea is generally calm. It's a beautiful way to see this part of BC, and Bowen Island is a quirky community of artisans and artists that is well worth exploring. The ferry to Bowen Island will accommodate your West Vancouver RV rental by owner, so it’s a great place to visit for a day. Be aware, though, that this 20-square-mile island has no room for campsites, so you’ll need to find somewhere else to stay.

That won't be a problem in Whistler, the popular ski resort that's just 70 miles up the road. You can make the drive in as little as an hour and a half, but you probably won't. With so many stunning vistas of mountain and ocean, you'll want to make plenty of stops along the way. If you visit in the winter and are a fan of skiing or snowboarding, you simply have to make the trip to Whistler. But there's plenty to do all year round in this resort town, and it's a great place to spend a night or two in your West Vancouver luxury RV rental.

RV Parks

Given the price of land in West Vancouver, it's perhaps a little surprising to find that there is are camping options in the city. Capilano River RV Park has laundry facilities, a playground, and a pool. Full hookups are available, and the site has Wi-Fi. The tranquility of the Capilano River rushing by might be undermined a little by the noise of the traffic on the Lion's Gate Bridge overhead. But when you consider that the bridge takes you right into downtown Vancouver, you may be ready to forgive a bit of potential noise.

For a more rustic experience, a short drive up the highway in the direction of Whistler will bring you to Porteau Cove Provincial Park. The park's campground has spots right by the water and offers hookups and a dump station. Only a 30-minute drive from West Vancouver, this park feels like a remote wilderness ready to be explored.

If you decide to take your motorhome rental in West Vancouver to Whistler, you could stay in Riverside Resort. This spot has full hookups, showers, and laundry, so it could be a nice place to stay. There's also Wi-Fi and a playground, as well as easy access to Whistler's miles of recreational trails.

Exploring The City

Across a narrow strip of ocean from Vancouver, West Vancouver has its own unique charm. Lighthouse Park is a popular oceanfront park with great views and easy trails to explore. If you’re lucky, you may even see a seal or two resting on the rocky beaches.

Capilano Suspension Bridge is a popular West Vancouver attraction. This rope bridge stretches across the canyon of the Capilano River and makes for great photo opportunities 230 feet above the roaring river.

Just across the Lion's Gate bridge in Vancouver, you'll find Stanley Park. Named for the same Lord Stanley that gave his name to hockey's highest prize, the Stanley Cup, Stanley Park is Vancouver's top tourist attraction. Take a carriage ride through the towering trees or visit Vancouver Aquarium.

Rent an RV in West Vancouver, and you’ll be able to explore all that southern BC has to offer. From towering trees to soaring skyscrapers, and from the hush of ancient forests to the vibrant buzz of city streets, West Vancouver has it all. For the best RV rental in West Vancouver, look no further.
