Dillon, Colorado, is a small town in the Colorado Rockies between Vail and Denver on I-70. The Great Outdoors

If you book an RV in Dillon, you’ll be in the heart of Colorado’s stunning Rocky Mountains, so you’ll find plenty of outdoor activities just minutes from the city. If you visit in the summer, you can enjoy a day on the water at the Dillon Reservoir or head into the mountains for a scenic day hike. Marina Park lies on the northeastern corner of the lake and visitors to the park can enjoy public fishing and boating docks as well as paths for biking and hiking. You can also enjoy the Dillon Reservoir on the Old Dillon Reservoir Trail, where you can hike, mountain bike, and even fish.

There are also plenty of hiking trails in and around Dillon. The Tenderfoot Mountain Trailhead offers access to two trails - the Tenderfoot Mountain Trail and the Oro Grande Trail. The Tenderfoot Mountain Trail is an easy, 2.5-mile hike with stunning views of wildflowers during the summer. The Oro Grande Trail is a moderate hike that can be a six-mile loop or can be extended if you explore other areas. You can also mountain bike on both of these trails.

You can also explore the West Ridge Trail from Loveland Pass if you’re feeling adventurous. This trail offers stunning views of the mountains and the Continental Divide from the Loveland Pass, which sits nearly 12,000 feet above sea level. This trail is only 1.5 miles long but since it’s at an extremely high elevation, it can wear even experienced hikers out.

If you decide to head to Dillon in the winter, then you’ll find plenty to do. If you enjoy skiing and snowboarding, Keystone is just minutes away from town, and Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Copper Mountain, and Breckenridge are all close by. You can also enjoy activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on many nearby trails, including the Old Dillon Reservoir Trail, the Tenderfoot Mountain Trail, and the Oro Grande Trail. When you rent an RV in Dillon, CO, you’ll easily be able to enjoy the exciting recreational opportunities in the Colorado Rockies.

RV Parks

While Dillon is a hub for outdoor adventure, its mountainous terrain makes RV camping somewhat scarce. If you’d like to stay close to town, you can stay at one of the many developed campgrounds in the surrounding recreation areas. The Prospector Campground is on the other side of the reservoir and it offers basic amenities like vault toilets, drinking water, and a boat ramp. The Heaton Bay Campground is a bit closer to town, and it has sites with a handful of electrical hookups, toilets, and drinking water.

If you’d like to get deep into the mountains, check out the Blue River Campground or the Hall Valley Campground. The Blue River Campground is a small campground between Silverthorne and the Green Mountain Reservoir, and it has very limited amenities - only vault toilets, picnic tables, and a fire pit. The Hall Valley Campground is another small campground deep in the mountains near Grant, and its grounds have toilets, drinking water, and space for RVs up to 30 feet long. If you do decide to head to the mountains, keep in mind that you will need to drive your rental RV through tight spots, so you should be mindful of size when you rent an RV in Dillon.

If you want a few more amenities, head to Tiger Run Resort just outside of Breckenridge. This RV resort offers full hookup sites as well as amenities like a pool, hot tubs, laundry, and modern showers. This RV park is open all year round but it’s only designed for self-contained RVs.

Exploring the City

Although this mountain town is fairly small, it’s bustling with visitors, and you’ll find plenty to do when you book a motorhome rental in Dillon.
