The Great Outdoors

You can find some peace in the wilderness while motorhome camping at Gentiles Campground, with a smorgasbord of amazing areas to visit. The campground isn’t far from the beautiful trails of Whitestone Cliffs which will give you a pretty good introduction to the area. Not far from there, you can check out Mattatuck State Forest near Thomaston. Spread over 4,500 acres of land, you can enjoy some great trails that will take you through rocky wooded areas with waterfalls and biking trails. Along with hiking, you can also find areas for hunting.Just around the corner to the west, you can explore Black Rock State Park for some more outdoor fun. You can find plenty of hiking trails over this 439-acre area, with camping sites too. Multiple varieties of oak trees populate the area along with other kinds of vegetation, and you'll have a chance to find an arrowhead from the Native Americans whose tribes allowed early settlers to mine graphite.You’ll find areas for picnicking as well as fishing with both ponds and lakes to try.Another spot that you should definitely take the time to visit is Naugatuck State Forest south of Naugatuck. The forest isn't lacking in areas to explore, with around 5,000 acres to see. It's a spectacular wildlife habitat that also provides opportunities for recreation like mountain biking, hiking, hunting, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and bird watching. With 17 trails to explore, make sure you bring a camera.

Explore the City

Mobility is key when it comes to vacationing in Connecticut, as there are all sorts of unique and interesting ways to spend your days. Whether you're into delicious food, clocks, or even carousels, they'll be something for you. The Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury is a terrific place to start, with an amazing selection of permanent and rotating art and exhibits. You can view collections that feature early American art from around the turn of the 19th century. The Orton P. Camp Jr. History exhibit will give you a walkthrough history spanning from the 1600s to today.If you are looking for a bit more action to get your adrenaline going, you can make your way over to the amusement and water park in Middlebury. It's a family-friendly destination with over 20 rides ranging from high speed to relaxing and delightful. Check out the wooden roller coaster or see what happens when you mix a yo-yo and a swing. Then you can try the water park with its own collection of thrills.For something in between, you can find your way down to Bridgeport, the home of Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo. It's one of the most amazing zoos in the area with over 300 different species to see, most hailing from North and South America. You can see rare species like the Siberian tiger or the Andean condor. Participate in a scavenger hunt, ride the carousel, or enjoy a bite at the Peacock Cafe when you spend an afternoon at this fantastic zoo.You really can’t go wrong with all the things to see and do while motorhome camping at Gentile's Campground.

What type of RV should I choose?

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
