The Great Outdoors
If you want to take your RV rental from Vénissieux and escape to the country, Vénissieux is surprisingly close to some of France’s pristine countryside. This region of France is particularly rich in natural splendor. Lyon is surrounded by national parks and natural parks. One of the closest, Parc Naturel Régional du Pilat, is less than an hour’s drive away, near Saint-Étienne and Vienne. Here, you can hike through vineyard-blanketed hillsides, meadows, and fir forests. Or you can explore the many mountain chains that crisscross here on the hundreds of miles of trails that snake through the Pilat. The GR7, GR42, and GR65 slice through these mountains. You can also take a hiking trip via horse or donkey, or with a guide. Mountain bikers will find many rewarding trails here, too. If you want to experience the regional gastronomy, you can find local wines, cheeses, fresh fruits, mountain charcuterie, and more here. If you're traveling with your family, you’ll find plenty here for children, including the Shield of Secrets treasure hunt.Another nearby park is Parc Naturel Régional Livradois-Forez. This park is known for its forested mountains, roaring waterfalls, and lush valleys all ready for you to explore. This park isn't just for nature lovers, either. You can visit Musée de la Coutellerie, a well-known museum of cutlery making, to learn how artisans in this area have smithed knives for hundreds of years. Or you can visit the tomb of Pope Clement VI, which is tucked inside an awe-inspiring Gothic church, the Église Abbatiale de Saint-Robert. This church is over 700 years old and is known for its antique pipe organ and gripping architecture. There are many other historic sites, foods, and local festivals to experience in Parc Naturel Régional Livradois-Forez that you can discover when you book an RV in Vénissieux.

Exploring the City
If you want to find some great outdoors within this bustling borough, explore its parks. One is Parc de Parilly, almost a square mile of green space between Vénissieux and Bron. The park is also a sports complex with several sports facilities, including soccer fields, basketball courts, and running tracks. Parc Louis-Dupic is a smaller city park tucked away in the metropolis. This green space flowers yellow and has a play area for children, but it also contains a secret – the crumbling ruins of an ancient castle. Kids and preteens might enjoy a trip to the amusement parks of Vénissieux, often featuring go-carts, bouncy castles, and zipline trails.Though Vénissieux expanded and modernized rapidly in the twentieth century, it's an ancient settlement with a charming old town. Vénissieux boasts two noteworthy historic churches – Church of Saint Germain, a 15th-century chapel and the oldest structure in the city, and Church of St. Joan of Arc, dating back to the 19th century. The Church of Saint-Germain is home to a small but rich trove of religious art. You may also like wandering through the many open-air farmers' markets like Marche des Minguettes and Parilly Market. Each market is open one or two days a week, so you’ll want to check and see which is open when you bring your motorhome rental to Vénissieux.Vénissieux is also known for its auto industry. If you’re a car enthusiast at any level, you might enjoy a two-hour tour of the Renault Truck plant. Cars have been made here since its founder, Marius Berliet, taught himself to build internal combustion engines in 1894.Vénissieux is only a small part of the metropolis of Lyon. You can find much more to explore, from ancient Roman architecture and UNESCO World Heritage Sites to a bustling nightlife scene when you visit Lyon.
