The Great Outdoors
Tours is home to a handful of beautiful municipal parks and gardens. The Jardin Botanique de Tours, or the Tours Botanical Garden, is a great place to see traditional French horticulture laid out immaculately within one space. Visitors can walk through an arboretum with exotic trees. The garden also features an animal park that was founded in 1863 where children and adults can meet traditional farm animals and even some exotic animals such as wallabies and chinchillas.
Camping in Tours
Once you find an RV rental in Tours head over to Tours Val de Loire Saint Avertin campground for a few days of peaceful camping. Electric hookups are available at most campsites. Sites are level, grassy, and shaded. You can even bring your four-legged companion along as long as they remain leashed. Wi-Fi is available throughout the campground, as well as heated toilets and shower facilities.
Exploring the City
While in Tours, take a tour of the Cathedrale Saint-Gatien, or Tours Cathedral. Construction began in 1170 but was not completed until the mid-16th century. The original stained glass windows are still intact and date back to the 13th century. You'll find information panels located throughout the cathedral, giving visitors a history of each of the windows. Visitors can see the marble tombs of the children of King Charles VIII and Anne of Brittany. Both of their children died in infancy and were buried at the cathedral.
