There's a quaint 173-acre park located near the south central border of Georgia and Alabama. About halfway between Montgomery and Albany, and just 30 minutes from Columbus, you’ll find Florence Marina State Park. This park wraps around the northern tip of Lake Eufaula, which is the central draw to the park.

Florence Marina State Park is a great spot for angling, relaxing on the beach, hiking through the woods, or boating on the 45,000-acre lake. The biodiversity of this area makes it an exciting place to observe the world around you. The Kirbo Interpretive Center teaches park visitors all about the history of the park, from prehistoric times all the way up to now. Getting Outdoors

Florence Marina State Park campers don’t have to look far to discover the park's diverse ecosystem. Wooded areas and a sprawling lake make a perfect nesting ground for a variety of wildlife to roam. Birders flock to Florence Marina for a chance to see any of the 300 species of birds that call this place home. Egrets, osprey, and bald eagles are common here. There are also coral snakes, alligators, raccoons, and deer. Wildlife viewing is an exciting way to explore the park, but please remember to respect the animals.

Anglers can rest assured that Lake Eufaula will provide plenty of fish. This 45,000-acre lake has over 600 miles of shoreline open to fishing. Toss your line into that calm freshwater and see what you can catch. Anglers have been known to reel in largemouth and spotted bass, crappie, channel catfish, stripers, sunfish, blue catfish, and so many more. Fish from shore or take your boat out. The marina has a 66-slip boat dock for you to leave your boat after you’ve collected the day’s haul.

For the treasure hunters in the family, all Georgia parks are equipped with geocaching. Roam the woods in search of prizes hidden under rocks or piles of leaves or up in a tree somewhere. Camping at Florence Marina State Park

Florence Marina State Park campers will be excited to hear that there are 43 motorhome camping sites for rent, with multiple sites that can accommodate campers over 100 feet in length. The biggest sites can handle 180-foot campers. All RV sites come with water and electrical hookups (30- and 50-amp), and some are equipped with full hookups. Whether your camper requires a pull-through or back-in space, this park has both; just make sure to call ahead to reserve a spot that works best for your RV rental.

Amenities include great cell phone reception for most major carriers, restrooms, and hot showers. There's also a place to do your laundry and a playground for the kids. You can pick up firewood and propane as well as other supplies, goodies, and souvenirs at the camp store.

Exploring the Area

If you’re looking for something fun to do outside the park, head over to Columbus and check out the Coca-Cola Science Museum. The CCSM is a division of Columbus State University and is an extraordinary tool for learning and discovery. Learn all about space, the history of space exploration, and the science they used to get up there in any of the museum’s many exhibits. Go to the observatory and explore our moon and all the planets in our solar system. If you're a space and science buff, you won't want to miss the Coca-Cola Science Museum in Columbus.

Maybe you’re more of an underwater adventurer. If so, the Flint River Aquarium is the place for you. The aquarium is just a short drive away in Albany. You can see all kinds of wildlife in the aquarium's exhibits. The 175,000-gallon Blue Hole Spring houses over 120 different kinds of fish and a variety of turtles. Learn all about how fish are born in the hatchery, or watch alligators roam the Spring Run Creek.

Andersonville is just over an hour east of the park and is home to the National Prisoner of War Museum. This monument is a testament to all the soldiers lost at war throughout American history. There's an exhibit hall with information and artifacts from the war, as well as a few introductory films to commemorate the lost war heroes and provide more information about the museum.

Once your Florence Marina State Park camping trip is complete, you might have to drive a small distance to get gas. The nearest gas stations are about 25 minutes away, so make sure you keep that in mind during your stay. Near the gas stations, you'll find plenty of restaurants to grab a quick bite or have a sit-down meal.
