Discover Statham RV rentals for memorable road trips
M. John C. Statham purchased a huge swath of land and built his home in 1850. On a portion of the land, he built homes and rented them to widows of Civil War Veterans. In those days, women, whether they were unwed or widowed, often had difficulty finding homes without a man to intercede on their behalf. Statham also donated land for roads, railroad tracks, and lots for churches. Statham’s generosity was unusual and quite progressive.
Statham was first known as Calamit, named by Muscogee (also known as Creek) and Cherokee Native Americans. In 1784, white settlers paid a leader of one of the tribes 14 pounds of beads for the land. This area was dubbed Beadland for many years until Statham purchased it. The first English name assigned to the settlement inhabited by widows and other residents was Barber’s Creek. It underwent a few name changes over the subsequent decades until 1892, when the residents voted for Statham in a nod to the benevolent benefactor.
The closest large town is Athens about 15 miles to the east. Statham’s central location to many attractions, parks, and the Atlanta city scene makes it an ideal place to rent an RV.

The Great Outdoors
Skip the hotel scene, book an RV in Statham, GA, and hit one of the many national parks located throughout Georgia. With hundreds to choose from, the perfect adventure is yours for the making. Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests covers some 867,000 acres of land and is one of the largest on the eastern seaboard. Hundreds of miles of multi-use trails wind through mature woods, meadows, down into wide, low valleys, and over endless babbling creeks and rivers. The forest grounds are covered with blazing greens of ferns, mosses, and other flora. Take care, though: poison ivy runs rampant in some areas. The Appalachian Trail starts in Georgia, and a large chunk runs through this park. Though not required, it’s recommended that snacks and bandaids be shared with thru-hikers, especially the southbound ones who are nearing the end of their journey. With thousands of miles under their belt, they’re bound to be a little footsore and, depending on how long it has been since their last supply stop, a little hungry, too.Several trails are open to four-wheel-drive vehicles, motorcycles, and ATV's. They range in difficulty. These trails, due to erosion from tires, are prone to lengthy closure after heavy rainfall, which is common in Georgia. OHV riders must obtain permits. Either one day or year passes are available.Fish from the shoreline or in deep lake waters. The wide, fast-flowing streams that serpentine throughout the park are purported to be one of the best trout fishing lakes in the state. Bring your Statham camper rental as six campgrounds offer full hookups, all with easy access to trailheads. If you’re willing to forgo the amenities, RVs and trailers are also welcome at rustic campgrounds.
RV Parks
Be sure and try to figure out where you’ll park your RV rental overnight before arriving. Various rules and policies in most towns prohibit overnight street parking. There are several campgrounds in the area. Ft Yargo State Park near Winder has a small campground with hookups for RVs. Though space is competitive during the summer months, the picturesque lake and tranquil landscape make up for the small size. The facility also features a swimming beach, a boat ramp, fishing dock, and disc golf course set right in the woods, providing a unique yet fun challenge to players.Pine Lake RV Campground may be a good option, too. Set in deep woods, the tree covers provides a sense of quiet and solitude. All lots have full hookups, and it’s also pet-friendly.
Exploring the City
Though Statham is relatively rural, it’s an easy task to jump in a luxury RV rental and roll into Athens, Atlanta, or any of the other neighboring towns. The Georgia Museum of Art showcases a wide variety of art ranging from abstract paintings to sculptures. Housed in an ultramodern building, the art galleries are regularly changed and refreshed to give visitors something new to enjoy every time they enter the halls. The permanent collection features American artists dating back to the mid-19th century. Andy Warhol’s famous Soup Can print also hangs in the halls. If people let a little humidity stop them from enjoying the activities, no one would ever venture outdoors. Golfing is an extremely popular recreational activity in Georgia, and dozens of public and private courses surround Atlanta. Trophy Club of Apalachee in Dracula was designed by former PGA player Steve Melnyk. The fairways may pose a challenge for beginners; they’re narrower than average and lined by tall, dense woods. Accurate swings are a requirement. Experienced players skilled at strategy will be intrigued by this fairway. At the end of a long day of adventuring, stop at one of the local convenience stores and grab a tarragon-flavored lemonade, Georgia’s signature drink. Kick up your heels outside your Statham RV rental and watch the sun go down.
The camper was clean and well maintained. The welcome basket was a nice touch. It was great to have everything set up upon arrival. Jamie was quick to answers any questions we had.
Oh My Goodness!! Ruby and her owners are great hosts. Only met Nicolas at end of trip. He had EVERYTHING set up before I checked in at park. Everything running smoothly before we arrived at Campsite #28, Fort Yargo St Park Campground, Winder, Georgia. Worry-free and nothing to do except enjoy ourselves. At first, I thought we did not have a TV but Bam! It was in main sleeping quarters. However, Wi-Fi throughout park terrible. At visitors' center OK. Ruby is set up to have cable but Hey! park has to supply good service in order to experience it. Inside Ruby was "cute as a button." Retro Red Ruby. Go Girl Go!! You get the worry-free, don't have to do anything. Everything already there & set up...canopy, rug, 4 lawn chairs. Any questions I had, Nicholas responded and answered thoroughly & quickly. You've got to try RVing this way. When you hosts like Nicholas & Megan, you're not doing it the wrong way.
Jaime was so easy to work with and so easy to communicate with. The camper was clean and perfect for our trip. I could not recommend booking through them enough!! Our trip was a blast, and we will be booking with them again in the future!!!
