One of the oldest state parks in Georgia and easily one of the most popular, Vogel State Park is neatly situated at the base of Blood Mountain, within the Chattahoochee Forest. This puts it some ten miles south of Blairsville, GA, 15 miles south of Young Harris, GA, and 21 miles west of Helen, GA.

Although visitors flock to this scenic spot throughout the whole year, this park reaches peak popularity during the fall, when the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains turn a kaleidoscope of red, gold, and orange. The area is mostly dominated by Eastern white pines and Eastern hemlocks, along with waterleaf, squirrel corn, Dutchmen’s breeches, and more. The park's location not only provides plenty of breathtaking vistas, but also a plethora of fun activities, especially for those who like camping with an RV.

Some of the most notable features of this state park include a 22-acre lake, miles of biking and hiking trails, a well-maintained campground, waterfalls, and cottages. Getting Outdoors

One of the most popular attractions of this park is, undoubtedly, Lake Trahlyta. Visitors usually come here to unwind and relax at the beach and take a dip into the water. Since boating is also allowed at the lake, a special section of the lake is designated for swimmers only. For those who aren't quite keen on getting themselves wet, paddling is also available. The lake features a boat ramp, making it easy to launch out and explore. If you don't have a boat of your own, don't worry — the park offers lakeside rentals during the peak season. Next up is biking. Getting around the park on two wheels is a great way to take in the feel and beauty of the natural environment. Visitors can reach almost any point within the park's boundaries, including the mini golf course and the lake. If you don't have your own bike, you can rent one on-site. In addition, Vogel State Park is one of the rare state parks that also features a mini golf course. After hiking through Blood Mountain or spending a hot day by Lake Trahlyta, many visitors often end up at the golf course. Participate in a few exciting rounds of golf, or simply grab some mouthwatering ice cream from the general store.

Camping at Vogel State Park

The park's cozy campground is open year-round and generally operates on a first-come, first-served basis. This means you won't be required to make a reservation prior to arriving. However, you'll want to make a reservation for your motorhome rental at Vogel State Park during the peak summer months to ensure you get the perfect spot. Vogel State Park's campground features 90 sites that welcome travel trailers, large RVs, and tent camping. There are pull-through and back-in sites that have water and electricity hookups and can accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet long. Visitors also have access to dump stations, a laundry facility, showers, and restrooms. Additional amenities include picnic tables and fire rings. For those looking for a cozier experience, the park offers 34 cottages, some of which are pet-friendly and accessible for guests with disabilities. Visitors can choose between three-bedroom, two-bedroom, one-bedroom, or studio set-ups. Also, some of the cottages typically have a microwave, a coffee maker, bath and bed linens, and a grill. If you're more of an outdoorsy type of person, you can opt for one of 18 walk-in-only tent sites. These offer a primitive shelter, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Pets are also allowed here, so you can bring your beloved animal companion to keep you company.

My family and I went camping at Lake Lanier and had the best time staying in this camper! My kids loved the bunk room, especially having their own private TV, bathroom, and mini fridge. Meanwhile, my husband and I were able to enjoy some quiet time to ourselves in the spacious living and kitchen area. I loved the full-size refrigerator, spacious bathroom, and comfortable queen mattress. Communication with Scott (host) was timely and easy throughout our stay. We had such a wonderful experience and would definitely stay here again!
