Kilo Hoku translates to Stargazer, or in more ancient times it relates to the voyagers who used the stars by night to navigate their journey here to Hawaii. My husband and I custom built this van to help travelers connect with nature and experience the freedom and adventure of being a modern day voyager.

Clean, comfortable, and loaded with Everything you could possibly need on your trip to Maui. There is a queen size memory foam mattress inside the van sleeps 2. There is an additional full size blow up mattress for sleeping under the stars on the roof deck, or in the tent if traveling with a family or group. We also have a blow up toddler mattress that fits perfectly on the floor inside the van or inside the tent.

We're a local Maui family wanting to share our camper and extra Aloha with visitors. Your comfort and safety are our top priority, and we are happy to answer any questions along the way.

Recommendations

Here are some of our recommended campsites and favorite areas available on Maui. Maui is an EXTREMELY popular travel destination so try to reserve in advance especially during our high seasons (December-April and July-August).

Hosmer Grove Campgrounds - Haleakala National Park

Many visitors will wake up at 2:00AM to make the long drive/tour up to the summit of Haleakala just to catch the sunrise. Others will arrive hours early to save a spot for the sunset show. However, only a few get to see both! This is just one of the many reasons to camp overnight at Hosmer Gove Campground. You can arrive mid-day and hike the trails of Haleakala then return to the summit to watch the sunset. In the morning you can awake to the spectacular sunrise! The added bonus, because you are camping in the park, you don’t need to get the otherwise required “sunrise viewing reservations.” All you will need is a park pass, purchased at the entrance, currently $25.00. The park pass is good for 3 days so you have plenty of time to see all the sights including a sunrise AND sunset!
Amenities: Drinkable Water, Car Access, Restrooms, Drive-up Camping

Camp Olowalu

"Beachfront camping in paradise." is how the folks at Camp Olowalu describe this tucked away camping site. Camp Olowalu makes for a great spot to spend your first night on Maui. Olowalu offers some of the best whale watching, snorkeling and kayaking all wrapped up in a great camp location. Additionally, Camp Olowalu offers Cabins, Tentalows, Beach side Tent Camping and RV Parking (for CampCars).
Amenities: Drinkable Water, Car Access, Cabins, Restrooms, Showers, Beach Access

Camp Ke'anae (Ymca)

If you are looking for a place to make camp on your way to Hana or perhaps on your way back, look no further. The Ymca here offers an assortment of camping options, among the best Maui camping available! They offer cabins, cottages, suites and tent or campervan camping spots! Campervan spots are only $25/person or $40/family, per night!
Amenities: Drinkable Water, Car Access, Cabins, Restrooms, Showers, Ice Machine

Waiʻanapanapa State Park

If you plan on taking the Road to Hana, consider staying in the area overnight. Waiʻanapanapa State Park is a great place to camp. This state park offers a remote, low-cliffed volcanic coastline with a famous black sand beach. Waiʻanapanapa State Park offers an assortment of lodging options including; tent camping, cabins, and RV camping. You can also enjoy picnicking, shore fishing and hiking along Ke Ala Loa O Maui/Piilani Trail. Other features and sights to see include; blow holes, native hala forest, cave, heiau (religious temple) and natural stone arch.

meagan was a pure delight to correspond with on our trip- attentive, helpful and always eager to ease our way! we had a camp stove malfunction mid trip and she coordinated it being replaced right away! the queen bed feels like a king as the side rail cubbies are flush with mattress- bonus! if you are over 6’3” and plan to drive this might not be the van for you as the seat only goes back so far because of the build out. stargazing on the roof top platform in kipahulu was- WOW! we are avid van campers in OR and rented this rig for 2 weeks to explore the entire island of maui- it was hands down the best vacation we’ve ever had! mahalo to meagan and her family and to the island of maui for such a warm and welcoming and absolutely magical trip!!!!
