Discover Weippe RV rentals for memorable road trips

Off the beaten path between Spokane and Boise is the town of Weippe, Idaho. It’s just east of the Nez Perce Reservation and doesn’t see too many tourists thanks to its location away from the main highways. There’s much to discover when you get a travel trailer rental in Weippe, though. The Weippe Prairie is where the members of Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery nearly starved to death after emerging from Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains in 1805. Weippe is rich in Native American history too, with the Nez Perce tribe having saved the lives of the Corps members by clothing and feeding the ragged explorers.

The Great Outdoors

Those wanting to follow in the footsteps of Lewis and Clark can take a journey along the Lewis and Clark Historic Trail. The route is more of an idea than a designated path at this point as the explorers floated down the Clearwater River rather than hiking along any trail. Most who take part in the journey do it as a scenic drive along Highway 12, which parallels the Lochsa and Clearwater Rivers.

RV Parks

The gorgeous mountains of northern Idaho make for a fantastic backdrop when you rent an RV in this scenic region of Idaho. Fortunately, there are a number of RV parks and campgrounds not far from town. Timberline Café and RV Park is just outside of Weippe and has several spaces that can accommodate larger RVs. It’s really just a parking lot behind a restaurant, so there’s not much in the way of amenities, but you can’t beat the location next to Grasshopper Creek.

Exploring the City

If you want to learn more about the town’s history when you get a camper rental in Weippe, you could start in the basement of its library, at the Weippe Discovery Center. It’s little more than a medium-sized room, but it’s filled with great information about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Nez Perce tribe. Reading all of the exhibits will probably take less than an hour, and it’s a great place to learn about the area. The Clearwater Historical Museum is nearby in Orofino and has similar displays, but is a little larger if you’re up for the trip.
