Fair Verona. This lovely city is best known for being the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. And no wonder – it’s the perfect setting for a fairy tale. People have been enamored with fair Verona since at least Roman times, and you can still see Rome’s fingerprints on the cityscape today. Its architecture has earned it the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site. It’s also known for its art scene and its many popular fairs, festivals, and operas.

The Great Outdoors

Verona is a great place to rent an RV if you're heading the mountainous Veneto countryside. Parco Naturale Regionale della Lessinia (Lessinia Natural Park) is just over an hour’s drive away. Here, between Vicenza and Trento, you can explore the protected forests and waterfalls, try to spot the dozens of animals, or even visit the trenches and tunnels of World War I. Two well-known natural wonders to visit are the Sphinx Valley “Rock City” and the Ponte di Veja Rock Bridge. You can explore it all on foot, bike, or horseback. This park is known for the incredible fossils discovered here. You can view some of them in the park’s museum. The park is also known for its wines, cheeses, and cured meats.

Camping in Verona

There are a few campgrounds around Verona, and there are several more near Lake Garda (about 45 minutes down the highway) and in Lessinia Natural Park.

Exploring the City

Ancient Roman culture leaves its mark on Verona to this day. Its crowning achievement was the Arena, a huge stadium like the Colosseum of Rome built in AD 30. It holds 30,000 people and is incredibly well-preserved – it's still used for festivals and concerts. You can go inside, see the ancient architecture, and marvel in person at the engineering.
