Verona is a great place to rent an RV if you're heading the mountainous Veneto countryside. Parco Naturale Regionale della Lessinia (Lessinia Natural Park) is just over an hour’s drive away. Here, between Vicenza and Trento, you can explore the protected forests and waterfalls, try to spot the dozens of animals, or even visit the trenches and tunnels of World War I. Two well-known natural wonders to visit are the Sphinx Valley “Rock City” and the Ponte di Veja Rock Bridge. You can explore it all on foot, bike, or horseback. This park is known for the incredible fossils discovered here. You can view some of them in the park’s museum. The park is also known for its wines, cheeses, and cured meats. A bit further from Verona is Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta, a gorgeous mountain park containing the jagged Brenta Dolomites. This UNESCO Geopark has views that will take your breath away – the rushing waterfalls, the rugged paths through meadow valleys, and the icy blue glaciers. You can explore miles and miles of trails or look for the endangered brown bear that finds refuge here. You should also sample the local products – this park is known for its cheese, honey, mineral water, and more. In the winter, this entire area becomes a haven for skiing and winter sports. You may also enjoy spending some time around Lago di Garda (Lake Garda). This huge lake is one of the largest in Italy. It’s an internationally-known windsurfing destination as well as a great place to catch a more leisurely ferry cruise. If you visit Malcesine in your RV rental from Verona, you can board a cable car and soar to the peak of Monte Baldo, almost 6,000 feet (1,800 meters) high. Or you could visit Scaligero, an imposing brown brick 13th-century castle and fortress of the lakeside town of Sirmione. There are also several theme parks on the southern end of the lake.
