Isaac Goodnow and his wife, Ellen, built this unique stone farmhouse. He started the Kansas State Teachers Association and established the college that became Kansas State University. Visitors to the Goodnow House will about what life was like during the turbulent years in Kansas. They will also learn more about the Goodnows at this native stone residence and barn. The Goodnow Hose is open Tuesday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday and Sunday 2 pm to 5 pm.

Less than ten miles south of central Manhattan is the Konza Prairie Biological Station, a unique venue that combines compelling natural history with scientific study and biological preservation. The site is jointly owned and operated by the Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University, and acts as a field research station for the university?s school of biology. This precious ecological preserve is much more than simply grassland. This area represents the largest portion of unplowed, tall-grass prairie on the entire continent, and serves as a nature preserve for a variety of flora and fauna. This accommodates a herd of bison along with animals that include birds, fish, and reptiles. The public is allowed access portions of the site through a network of looping hiking trails, and once a year the preserve holds a Biennial Visitors' Day that allows visitors to access other parts of the preserve and conducts guided walking tours.
