For some reason, Bluie is just special. He's a happy van. Every bus has a personality - for example: "cranky to start but great when it warms up" "always starts but second gear is clunky" "great stereo but the seat has a spring that gets you when you sit". "super clean and restored, but maybe a little too perfect". Bluie is just "happy". You smile when you drive him, and people smile at you. He's very original, but not worn out. His color pops, but isn't obnoxious. You can be noticed, but you can slip through a crowd sometimes. I find within minutes of leaving I usually receive renter messages about "him" and commentary from renters that sounds more like they're dogsitting a friendly pet than renting a car. It's pretty cool. He's in great shape with a smooth running motor, easy shifting automatic transmission, clean, funky original blue interior, two beds sleeping two adults each for a total of four, accessories like a house battery to run lights and refrigerator and charge phones while leaving the starter battery ready to go when you go home, new tires, good brakes, great paint, everything you'd expect. But there's something more. There are seatbelts for five in Bluie, and pets can be considered on request - this is a vintage vehicle in original, excellent condition, so please understand that many requests for harder drives, boisterous breeds of dogs, etc., may not be a fit. For example, no Burning Man, no Coachella, no Joshua Tree in August, etc.,Bluie has an official minimum rental of 5 days. We are happy to rent him for shorter trips, however, please understand that due to the costs involved with old Volkswagens, there is a sliding rate based on the length of your rental. Included below is a complete listing of our nightly rental rates.Days Rented $ Per Night

Rules and policies
1. No Smoking.
2. 91 Octane (premium) gas only - old aircooled VW motors need it or they blow up.
3. No crazy uphill mountain locations; basically go easy on my baby
4. Talk to me first about desert trips, it depends on the time of year. Joshua Tree in the fall/winter/spring is probably ok; in the summer it's highly unlikely to be allowed.
5. Summer trips to any desert or climbing the Grapevine are probably a no. My vision here is nice mellow drives up the PCH, not cooking the bus motor climbing a hot mountain pass or burning up in the Desert.
6. No Burning Man. If you still want to take it to Burning Man, talk to me separately. If it somehow does happen, and my first answer is still NO, I'll need to be sold on the idea, and the deposit will be very similar to the cost of a motor and a tow from Burning Man back to LA plus some pain in the butt money. :)
7. No climbing on the roof.
8. 120 miles are included per day (calculated by every 24 hour period you have the bus), $1.00 per mile over that. Again, my goal is for a leisurely cruise up the coast, going easy on this old girl. Everything is recently built and tuned on this bus, but even new, it's 40 year old technology and the best bet is to go easy on it.
