Getting Outdoors

One of the most entertaining outdoor activities here is golfing. You can spend the day competing with your friends and enjoying the vast natural surroundings. One of the reasons why golfing is so popular here is the diverse terrain. If you've never played golf, this is a wonderful opportunity to try it out and see what all the fuss is about.

Golfing isn't the only reason RV camping is so popular here. The number one attraction is, without a doubt, Lake Grenada, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. You can relax on the shore or check out one of the two designated swimming areas. Lake Grenada is so vast that it allows all sorts of watercraft, and even water skiing is unrestricted in all areas. As far as the fishing goes, the lake is stocked with bream, bass, and catfish, but bear in mind that you'll need a fishing license.

The park also has wonderful hiking trails that wind through the wetlands, coastal area, and park’s grooves and thickets. It's one of the best ways to soak in the park’s beauty and observe wildlife, such as whitetail deer, woodland critters, and birds. You can also hike along Chakchiuma Swamp, where you'll definitely spot some of the park's rare plants and flowers.

Camping at Hugh White State Park

The RV campground at Hugh White State Park is big enough to accommodate more than 100 RV campers. Nearly 130 developed campsites at the state park feature water and electrical hookups along with other RV camping amenities. Campsites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet in length, and guests can enjoy grills, a picnic area, restrooms, and hot showers.

The only drawback is that the campground isn't that close to the swimming area, but the central dump station is easy to find, at least. You can also reserve camping spots in advance, either online or directly at the park’s office. The park is also pet-friendly; just remember to keep your dog on a leash.

Exploring the Area

Whenever you get tired of camp food, you'll be able to treat yourself to a nice meal just a few miles away in Grenada. The town might not have notable museums or galleries, but when it comes to restaurants, this place is packed. Pizzerias, barbecue, Mexican, Chinese, American, seafood; you name it, Grenada has it, so there's no way you'll be leaving town on an empty stomach.

As we mentioned before, if you want to explore nearby towns, make your way to Greenwood or Oxford. In Greenwood, you'll find the Museum of the Mississippi Delta. See the region's well-preserved fossils, fur, and feathers in the natural science section. Explore the impressive collection of archeological artifacts that belonged to Native Americans. You can also attend insightful lectures and see detailed exhibits pertaining to military and agriculture.

In Oxford, you'll also find a number of incredible museums, and one of the best is the University of Mississippi Museum. Here, you can admire a collection of scientific equipment from the 19th century as well as European antiquities. UoM also hosts different exhibits that change throughout the year, and you will learn about historic houses and when they are open for tours.

Near the town of Oxford, you'll find Wolf Howl Animal Preserve, a park dedicated to -- you guessed it -- the preservation of wolves. If you love animals and would love to see these majestic mammals up close, make sure to drop by. The preserve has a lovely gift shop where you can buy wolf-themed merchandise and clothing in order to support their cause. You can even take some awesome pictures with the wolves.
