Getting Outdoors

Fringed by a grassy foreshore, Lake Lee is the centerpiece at Tombigbee State Park. On a sunny day, head down to the lake and claim one of the waterfront picnic tables. Be sure to pad out your basket with Southern specialties like blue crab, pulled pork, home-baked biscuits, comeback sauce, and Mississippi mud pie for dessert.

Scenic nature trails wind through the park and are a great way to enjoy the park on foot. The Tree Trunk Trail is a favorite, featuring flat terrain and gorgeous views of the lake. Lake Lee is well-stocked with fish, including bass, bream, and bluegill. Try your luck from the shore or launch a boat and head to the more secluded fishing spots. The public barbecue grills are perfect for frying up your catch of the day.

There are plenty of recreational facilities on offer, including a tennis court, volleyball nets, archery range, and kids' playground. A pair of 18-hole disc golf courses meander through the park's rolling hills and hardwood forests. If you don't travel with discs, the park office can hook you up with rentals.

Camping at Tombigbee State Park

The Tombigbee State Park Campground enjoys a peaceful setting under a canopy of maples, hickories, and oaks. Sites are spacious and private, with picnic tables, grills, and fire rings for enjoying your meals outdoors. You're also a short stroll from the lakeshore and day-use area. The campground offers 18 full-hookup sites with water, electricity, and sewer. There are also an additional two RV camping sites with water and electricity only.

Like most state park RV campgrounds, Tombigbee features modern bathroom blocks with hot showers and flush toilets. There's also a dump station for RVs with services onboard. Long-distance road trippers will appreciate the addition of laundry facilities, which make it easy to freshen up clothes and sheets. Sites are back-in and can accommodate campervans of up to 54 feet in length. Generator use is not allowed, making Tombigbee State Park a great option for campers in search of peace and quiet.

Most sites are pet-friendly, so why not bring along Fido on your next motorhome camping getaway? Reservations are recommended, especially if you're traveling during peak season from May to August. The campground fills up fast for events like the Tupelo Elvis Festival and April Fool's Fling Disc Golf Tournament.

Exploring the Area

Kids love the Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo, which gets you up close with herds of American bison, as well as exotic animals like giraffes, zebra, and monkeys.

Tupelo is also home to the Natchez Trace Parkway Visitors Center, where you can learn about the legendary corridor that's been used by Native Americans, European settlers, U.S. soldiers, and modern sightseers for thousands of years. Today, the Natchez Trace Parkway is one of the top scenic drives in North America, spanning across three states and treating you to a plethora of scenic pull-offs, hiking trails, and historic sites. The parkway is stunning in the fall, when the forests explode in a sea of reds, yellows, and golds.
