Getting Outdoors

Visitors to Pickwick Landing State Park have so many options to keep busy and have some fun in the sun. The park allows all types of boats, and there are two public boat ramps inside the park. A full-service marina is also inside the park. Visitors can purchase boat supplies, snacks, and souvenirs at the marina's store. Load your water toys and pull them behind your rental RV, or you can rent canoes, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and fishing or pontoon boats from the park.

Camp in an RV at Pickwick Landing State Park and spend time birding. Common sightings include ring-billed gulls, American coots, loons, and horned grebes. The park office has a guide listing over 145 bird species that have been spotted within the park. Pick up a guide when you get to the park, and be on the lookout for some of the rarer birds such as the brown-headed nuthatch. Exploring the Area

The Shiloh National Military Park in Shiloh has preserved the Shiloh and Corinth battlefields from the Civil War. The main part of the park is located just south of Savannah, with an additional part of the park in Corinth, Mississippi. Take a day and visit Adamsville and the Buford Pusser Home and Museum. This is a law enforcement museum centering on the famous Sheriff Buford Pusser. The brick ranch home that once belonged to the Pusser family contains original furnishings, guns, memorabilia, photos, and cars. The Walking Tall movies are centered on the life and death of Buford Pusser. Walk through Pusser’s home and learn more about this illustrious man and his contribution to law enforcement.

The Tennessee River Museum in Savannah displays one-of-a-kind mementos detailing the history of the Tennessee River Valley. The museum displays more than 200 prehistoric fossils. Visitors can explore native societies that helped shape the Tennessee River Valley. The Cherokee Nation suffered greatly on the Trail of Tears, and the museum has a detailed timeline following that dark time in Tennessee history.
