Both towns have gas stations and small grocery stores where you can pick up the essentials you need. There are also boat rentals, fishing outfitters, and other outdoor supply retailers located around the sides of the lake. You will also find cafes and pubs where you can pick up a bite to eat. The closest major city to your campsite at Pomme de Terre Campground is Springfield. It is an hour's drive south of the state park, and there are several fascinating things to do here. This area is known for large underground caverns, and you can actually take tram tours of the area. Animal lovers will enjoy the Wonders Of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium as well as the Dickerson Park Zoo. The Nathanael Green/Close Memorial Park is a beautiful botanical garden, and the Springfield Conservation Nature Center has several nature trails and preserved habitats for local animals. History lovers will also enjoy the Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, which is a Civil War battle site. The Route 66 Car Museum, Air & Military Museum, and Missouri Sports Hall of Fame are other interesting attractions worth checking out in this area. If you want to take a more extended day trip while camping in an RV at Pomme de Terre Campground, consider visiting Kansas City or St. Louis. Kansas City is known for its role in jazz history, and even today has a rich culture with live music, art galleries, and great restaurants. St. Louis is known as the home of the Gateway Arch and also has beautiful local parks. Both cities have excellent zoos, art museums, and other fun things to do.
