Fort Peck Lake is located close to the city of Glasgow in the northeastern prairie region of Montana, and also happens to be the state’s largest body of water. Covering over 1500 miles of shoreline, Fort Peck Lake is a great outdoor destination for a motorhome camping trip. While the entire lake lies within the Charles M Russell Wildlife Refuge, it is easily accessible via Montana Highway 24. As one of the six lakes of the Missouri River, Fort Peck Lake was created out of the building of the Fort Peck Dam in 1940. Originally constructed with the intention of providing hydroelectric power, Fort Peck Lake is also used for a whole lot of other purposes, including recreation, irrigation, water supply, navigation, flood damage reduction, and improved water quality.
