Frequently asked questions

Q.

What vehicles can I tow the Scamp with?

A.

Your tow vehicle should have a minimum towing capacity of 2000 lbs. Although the Scamp only weighs about 1500 pounds, once you're loaded up with gear, you can quickly approach your towing minimum. We tow ours with a 2013 Subaru Outback 2.4. It struggles up some hills, but it definitely does the job. Here's a list of vehicles that are capable of towing the Scamp*: -Subaru Outback -Toyota Tacoma -Jeep Cherokee -Toyota Rav 4 *Please check your vehicles max towing capacity

Q.

Can the Scamp fit more than 2 people?

A.

No, the Scamp is best for a couple. The dinette converts into a double bed that fits is about the size of a full sized mattress. The kitchen area is a 3x4 foot area, so it could fit a child or pet sleeping on a small camping mattress. If you wanted to sleep extra people at your campsite, we could set you up with a separate camping tent that gives you some extra space.

Q.

Is there a toilet in the Scamp?

A.

The Scamp has a cassette toilet, which is essentially a very simple, self contained toilet. We use it to go #1, but usually use public restrooms or campground restrooms for #2. If you're traveling solo, you might feel more comfortable using it for #1 & #2, but since we travel together, we usually like to get our space. Here's a pretty comprehensive video on how they work and the pros and cons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37xir19OjqI

Q.

Is there a shower in the Scamp?

A.

We are currently working on installing a shower for the long term, but it's not yet complete. You'll notice the bathroom has a drain, but is not yet ready to use for showering.

We love our Scamp, but hate to see it go unused. We want to give people the chance to experience the outdoors with some additional comforts to make them feel at home.
