The Great Outdoors

Camp in an RV near Ocean View and spend a day exploring the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge, which provides vital habitat for large numbers of migratory birds. It was established in 1989 from land owned by the Nature Conservancy, with more than 300 bird species, 40 mammals, and 55 reptile and amphibian species having been recorded within its bounds. Interpretive trails such as the Cedar Swamp Trail and Woodcock Trail make it a popular destination for families to explore while learning about the local ecology. The Friends of Cape May also host nature walks on Saturdays between May and October, as well as a variety of other programs throughout the year. Directly southwest of the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is the Beaver Swamp Fish and Wildlife Management Area, another popular wildlife-viewing destination along the Jersey Shore. It’s named after a population of beavers that once inhabited its main pond and is now renowned for its bald eagle and barred owl sightings. Embark on one of the trails that wind through its forested wetlands and upland forests while keeping your eyes peeled for Acadian flycatchers, Kentucky warblers, and Louisiana waterthrush.Camping at Ocean View Resort Campground is also a good base for visiting the New Jersey Lizard Tail Swamp Preserve, which protects a globally rare lowland swamp at the headwaters of Bidwell Creek. A system of trails developed by the Nature Conservancy wind through the preserve, accessing its pine-oak forest and red maple swamp. It provides critical feeding and resting habitat for migratory birds, with interpretive signage about the species and ecosystems you’re likely to encounter.

Questions about RVs?

Q.

What type of RV should I choose?

A.

Start by determining how many people are planning to travel with you. Going on a solo-journey? Choose a camper van or a teardrop trailer. Bringing the whole family along for the ride? Consider a spacious Class A or five-wheel.

You’ll also want to consider amenities. For example, if you’re planning to cook on the road, you’ll want a kitchenette. If your campground doesn’t have public restrooms, you’ll want to search RVs with bathrooms. Check out full descriptions of our models to help you decide here.

Q.

Do the RVs have bathrooms?

A.

Yes. Class A’s, Class B’s, and Class C’s and five-Wheels typically have bathrooms. Depending on where you plan on camping, you’ll want to double-check the availability of restrooms if selecting a rig without a bathroom. Nervous about renting an RV with a bathroom? Owners can help show you how to clean the tank or will offer to do it for you for a fee.

Q.

How does check-in work?

A.

Once an Owner approves your RV reservation, you can coordinate a time to pick up your rig or have it delivered to your doorstep or campsite. At that point, the owner will do a key exchange with you and walk you through the RV and answer any questions you might have.
