The sprawling Sampson State Park, spread over 2000 acres of tranquil forest land, is located in the state of New York, on the eastern shores of the Seneca Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. Offering an ideal state park camping trip, Sampson State Park’s primary attraction is the beautiful lake at its center, with stunning views and one of finest sunset viewing points in the region. To the south of the park is the neighboring city of Geneva in the Town of Romulus. Not very far from the cities of Ithaca and Syracuse, they’re both easily accessible from the state park, and an RV rental is one of the best ways to explore this region.

Getting Outdoors
Although the park is open all-year through, summer is the best time to camp out in your rental motorhome at Sampson State Park. There are quite a few recreational activities to choose from when you visit the park. While Seneca Lake is one of the park’s main attractions, boating and fishing are two of the most sought after activities here. There is a 100+ boat slip marina with multiple boat ramps for launching your boats into the lake. The Seneca Lake is a paradise for anglers. The lake abounds in a variety of fish, including variations of trout, landlocked salmon, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, yellow perch, northern pike, chain pickerel, rock bass, crappie, sunfish, and smelt. Grab your fishing rod and head to the lakeshore, or fish from a boat.
Camping at Sampson State Park
Looking to enjoy some RV camping at Sampson State Park? There are about 300 sites to choose from, some of which are non-electric, while most are electric sites. The sites have big rig access, with 30 AMP electric service. Some of the primitive sites don’t have water or sewers. Most of the electric sites are to the north side of the park, arranged in 5 loops. Each of the loops has restrooms with flush toilets and shower stalls. The campsite is perfect for kids to run around in, with plenty of space accessible. Pets are welcome here too, with lots of dog-friendly hiking trails and spaces all through the park. The only restrictions for pets are inside the military museum and on certain parts of the beach. Do remember to carry your pet’s vaccination record. There are a few cabins and cottages for rent as well.
Exploring the Area
A Seneca County camper rental will serve you well on your adventures through the region. After exploring the Sampson State Park, make your way to Geneva, less than 14 miles from the park. Located on the northern end of Seneca Lake, the city has roots in farming and agriculture. Spend time exploring the highlights of this city. The Smith Opera House is an architectural treasure and a fine venue for performing arts of music, dance, and theater. Book ahead to watch a performance here.
