The little town of Glenburn sits about half an hour's drive north of Minot, one of the largest communities in north-central North Dakota. It’s a few miles from Highway 83, the nearest major road, but only about ten miles from Minot Air Force Base, which can see a lot of traffic during military exercises. Overall though, when you book an RV in Glenburn, you can expect an incredibly peaceful experience. It's an ideal destination for those wanting to explore off-the-beaten-path areas in the heartland of America.

With the exception of Theodore Roosevelt National Park on its western border, North Dakota receives very few tourists. The state lacks the soaring peaks of the Rocky Mountain states to the west and the big-city attractions of the states east of the Mississippi. However, North Dakota has a lot to offer if you’re just willing to look for it. Some of the most important sights on the Lewis and Clark Historic Trail, like Fort Mandan, can be explored on a day trip from Glenburn when you rent an RV there. Hunters and anglers will enjoy an afternoon spent on Lake Sakakawea just south of nearby Minot, which is one of the largest reservoirs in the United States. But no matter what your travel preferences are, you’re sure to find something interesting when you choose an RV rental in Glenburn, ND.

Discover Glenburn

The Great Outdoors

One of the most popular outdoor recreation areas in the Glenburn area is Lake Sakakawea, the 150-mile-long impoundment of the Missouri River. During the summer months, you’ll find dozens of anglers plying the water in search of their next big catch; when fall comes around, hunters are out in force for waterfowl hunting season. The closest access point to Lake Sakakawea is near the town of Garrison.

For great bird watching near Glenburn try Upper Souris National Wildlife Refuge just west of town. There are a couple of trails running the length of Upper Souris Lake and a designated canoe trail if you’ve got a boat with you. Buck, moose, and upland bird hunting are also popular during their respective seasons.

If there’s an animal lover in your travel crew, you’ll definitely want to plan for a day at the Roosevelt Park Zoo. It’s not very large but has about 50 different species housed on its riverfront property including bears and big cat species.

RV Parks

RV parks are plentiful in the north-central part of the state, and you should have no trouble finding a place to camp with your travel trailer rental near Glenburn. The closest campsites are in the town of Upham, just east of Glenburn-in their city park campground. A couple of the sites have full hookups, and several others include just water and electricity. It’s a very small park in the middle of town, and a good option if you’d like to stay somewhere quieter than Minot.

For a more full-service experience, consider camping at the Minot/Swenson RV KOA when you choose an RV rental in Glenburn, North Dakota. Not only do their sites have full hookups, but there’s also a dog park for your four-legged companion, some hiking trails to explore, and corn hole setups for family game nights.

Another option near Minot is the Roughrider Campground, which has full hookups and plenty of space for you to stretch out when you get a camper rental in Glenburn. Minot also has a Walmart with a parking lot where you might be able to camp, with the manager’s permission. There won’t be any amenities though, so come prepared for self-sufficiency.

Exploring the City

When you choose an RV rental in Glenburn, you’ll probably spend most of your time down in Minot, where nearly all of the area attractions are located. Glenburn has a couple of restaurants and a bar or two, with almost no other commercial activity. However, Minot is just a short drive away and an easy trip for your motorhome rental from Glenburn.

One of the more interesting attractions in Minot is the Dakota Territory Air Museum, which houses several military aircraft from throughout the past century. It’s replete with interesting information about America’s military engagements and the nearby Air Force base, which commands about a third of America’s land-based nuclear arsenal.

To learn about the area’s railway history, check out the Railroad Museum and Magic City Express in downtown Minot; you can’t miss it, there’s a giant caboose outside. It has a number of interactive displays explaining how the railroad allowed the Dakota Territory to develop in the late 19th century, and the little ones will be awestruck by the huge model train display in the building’s basement.
