Meet Janet, a 1985 VW Vanagon Westfalia. Janet, a beautifully preserved classic, is completely original with the stock equipment from the 80s. Cruise the Olympic Peninsula or Olympic National Park in style. She seats and sleeps 4 with a pop-top roof and folding rear seat. She has a 2 burner stove, a small sink w/ fresh water tank, a small fridge, fold our awning, and plenty of storage space for clothing, food and gear.At its heart, a Westfalia is a compact, easy to drive, vehicle. However, it's important to note that in a "cab over" vehicle, the driver is positioned on top of, or "over" the wheels, vs. a standard passenger car where the front wheels are 2-3 feet in front of you. The difference completely changes how the vehicle handles, especially in turns, which takes some getting used to. The van is a joy to drive, but please keep in mind it is not a performance vehicle - is is a vintage cruisers and must be treated with love and care. This is a vintage rig, max highway speed is 60 mph, and even with all the mechanical upgrades and a perfectly tuned stock engine, the van is quite slow up hills (45-50 mph) and climbing steep grades should be avoided whenever possible. Please note that travel to Hurricane Ridge is strictly forbidden (extremely steep road in Olympic National Park). This vehicle has a 4 speed manual transmission (stick shift). You must be able to proficiently pilot this vehicle in order to take possession at time or rental. Please DO NOT rent the van if you've never driven stick, or if you are out of practice or are unsure of your ability to drive a manual. What's includedThe van is stocked with camping dishes and cooking utensils. The following gear can be provided complimentary, just ask :)
- Sleeping bags or sheets
- Camping chairs
- Portable heater (okay for use inside van when parked)
- Flash lights, lantern, rope lights
- Coleman stove for cooking outside the van
- Many more camping items and toys, let us know what you’re looking for and if we have it, you can use it. *bikes & bike rack is an additional fee*Transportation from the Blackball CoHo Ferry, Port Angeles Bus Depot or Fairchild Airport can be arranged complimentary.
