Barnwell State Park is a park located near Blackville, South Carolina in Barnwell County. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps built 16 state parks across the state of South Carolina. Barnwell State Park is one of them; the land was initially purchased from private landowners in 1937. Many of the buildings built by the Civilian Conservation Corps are still in use at the park today.

The park and the county are both named for John Barnwell, an officer in the South Carolina Militia during the American Revolution. Barnwell also served in the South Carolina Provincial Congress and the official South Carolina legislature after independence. His brother, Robert Barnwell, was also a revolutionary soldier and a South Carolina legislator. His grandfather fought against Native Americans in the region decades earlier. Some sources indicate the county is actually named for one of them.
