City Sightseeing

The Museum of Geology is an excellent place to spend the day, with loads of fossils and dinosaur skeletons on display. This publicly funded university museum has fossils found in South Dakota and rare minerals coming from all around the globe.The South Dakota Air and Space Museum is a where you can easily get lost due to its massive grounds and extensive plane collection. This mesmerizing aviation museum tells the story of airplanes and jets within the context of the military, explaining dozens of engagements with enemies during WWI, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War.Although not technically located in Rapid City, you cannot miss Mount Rushmore or the Crazy Horse Monuments when you find yourself in this lovely region. Mount Rushmore features the faces of four US presidents, designed and overseen by Gutzon Borglum to showcase democracy and inspire the millions of people who visit each year. The Crazy Horse Memorial is also being carved into the mountainside on a grand scale, to pay respect to the legendary Native American leader.
