Discover Enfield Town

The Great Outdoors

Once you rent a motorhome in Enfield Town, head over to Myddelton House Gardens. Myddelton House was the home of Edward Augustus Bowles, an avid botanist. He spent much of his time maintaining the gardens, where he cared for exotic plants he brought back from his travels. Once Bowles died, the Myddelton House Gardens were given to the city. The layout of the gardens has remained the same and has been carefully restored for visitors to enjoy. One highlight is the Kitchen Garden complete with a tulip terrace overlooking the garden. The Kitchen Garden has large flower beds brimming with edible plants. The Rock Garden is another favorite spot with rock pools and statuary.

Be sure to visit the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, a 10,000-acre park situated in the northeast corner of London. Pack your bicycle in your Enfield Town rental RV for a few days of cycling along country trails. Hikers can also take advantage of these trails and hike through Essex and Hertfordshire. Or, bring your horses for a day of horseback riding. Whitewater rafting is a great activity for the more adventurous spirits. Take in a slower-paced game of golf, or enjoy a picnic at one of the many picnic areas throughout the park.

Plan to visit Trent Park Garden and spend the day wandering through over 400 acres of lush countryside. The house within the park is now a school, but the grounds are an excellent place to walk the trails or relax among the manicured gardens. Children can run and play at the playground while adults enjoy the sunshine and views of the ornamental lakes.

Exploring the City

London might be calling, but Enfield Town has no shortage of attractions, activities, and urban charm. Plan a visit to Forty Hall, a 17th-century manor house that's been converted into a museum. The former Tudor Elsyng Palace once stood on the grounds of Forty Hall. The permanent exhibit within the museum is the History of Forty Hall and Estate, which tells the stories of all the families that have resided there, including the first resident Sir Nicholas Rainton, the Lord Mayor of London and Master Haberdasher. Exhibits include audio files, text, draperies, furniture, and artwork from each family that resided at Forty Hall. Guided tours are available throughout the day.

Whitewebbs Museum of Transport is more than just a museum full of old vehicles. The upper floor houses several World War II artifacts, including an air raid siren and military weaponry. Another floor has memorabilia from times gone by, such as old toys, typewriters, cameras, and kitchen gadgets. The museum has diligently preserved many commercial vehicles and even a vintage train set. The building where the museum is housed in an old water pumping station with the original well still in the basement.

No trip to Enfield is complete without venturing into greater London. If it's your first time visiting the Big Smoke, be sure to add iconic experiences, like Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, and Westminster, to your itinerary. If you'd rather skip the big-ticket attractions, you'll be delighted to discover that one of the world's most famous cities still has a few hidden gems. One of these is the London Mithraeum, an ancient temple dedicated to the Roman god Mithras. The Postal Museum offers a unique train ride along London's underground postal railway. Last but not least, tour the Clink Prison Museum, the country's oldest prison, which first incarcerated criminals in the 1100s.
