We completed building our van about 4 years ago and have loved it! We've used it mainly for weekend getaways, but LOVED Niagara Falls in the Winter, Spring Training in Florida, and overnights at a couple vineyards.

What a wonderful van experience. Communication and flexibility were spot on with Doug. The van has been fitted out to be very comfortable and offers great ease of use. The solar power was amazing, and the efficient kitchen set up allowed me purchase fresh fish each day for dinner/lunch/breakfast. Hands down - Doug’s van is the way to explore the barrier islands and beyond.

Have a question?Get answers directly from the owner

Q.Do I need to bring linens or cooking items?
A.
We supply the bed with fresh sheets, 2 pillows, and (depending on the season) a heavy blanket or a light blanket. The kitchen comes with a single burner cook-top, a pot (to boil water), a sauce pan, 2 bowls & plates, can opener, silverware, a knife (for cutting veggies), cutting board, and spatula. You are welcome to bring any other bedding, towels, or other cooking items!

Q.What's the toilet situation?
A.
We have a modest camping toilet (essentially a slightly fancier version of a bucket with a bag in it). We suggest using it sparingly, as we try to hit restrooms right before bed and early in the AM to minimize the wonderful world of bag changing.

Q.Does your van have a/c when it's parked? No? How on EARTH do you stay cool?
A.
Thanks for asking! I'll preface this by saying I am a typical male when it comes to sleeping - I like it COLD. I, too, was worried about this, but I've been in Florida in the Summertime and slept great. The key is the overhead boat hatch above the bed and the roof fan. Simply crack the boat hatch and turn the fan on exhaust (air blowing out). This will pull air in from outside, over your head and out the fan, creating a wonderful cross breeze.

Q.Does your van have heat when it's parked? No? How on EARTH do you stay warm?
A.
We have a little propane heater that does a fantastic job heating the van. My wife and I have been to Niagara Falls in the Wintertime, and while I can't say we were toasty all night long, we were warm most of the night - it's glamping after all! We include a couple propane canisters that will last ≈5hrs, and additional ones can be purchased easily (Walmart, Target, any camping store) for $3 each. And a really good sleeping bag helps too!
