The Great Outdoors

Merrimac campers will have access to some of the most beautiful spots in Wisconsin. Devils's Lake State Park is only a short drive from Merry Mac's Campground and is the third oldest and largest state park in Wisconsin. The park consists of the 350-acre Devil's Lake, surrounded by massive quartzite cliffs that overlook the area, giving visitors beautiful panoramic views of the park. This park is a popular destination for hiking, with over 29 miles of trails which lead around the lake as well as through woodlands and meadows, or up to the rocky cliffs for a more challenging trek. The lake itself offers lots of water sports including kayaking, canoeing, and swimming. Fishing is a favorite activity, and anglers regularly catch bass, trout, and walleye.

Another serene waterway worth visiting during your campervan rental near Merrimac is Mirror Lake State Park. This state park features Mirror Lake, which gets its name due to the calmness of its waters. As a result, the surrounding cliffs and woods are reflected in the water, making this an unusual yet gorgeous place to visit. There are over 19 miles of trails at this 2,000-acre park, which will take you through the woods and up the nearby 50-foot cliffs. Pets are allowed on these trails, so make sure you bring your pup along for a stroll. Mirror Lake has a swimming beach ideal for swimming or sunbathing, and other popular activities include boating, kayaking, and picnicking.

One of the most secluded parks worth visiting when you book an RV in Sauk County is Rocky Arbor State Park. This densely wooded park covers over 200 acres of land near the Wisconsin Dells and offers lots of visitors to do including a mile-long nature trail to explore. There are also numerous picnic tables and a playground for kids to enjoy, making this the ideal destination for a quiet getaway. In the park's open space, you can also go hunting for deer and small game; however, this can only be done during specific times.

Exploring the City

While Merrimac campers might not find much to do in the local vicinity, a short drive south to Madison will give you plenty of activities to enjoy.
