Transportation

Driving

Phoenix, Arizona, is one of the most densely populated cities in Arizona, which means you need to have your wits about you at all times. Arm yourself with a traffic app like ADOT or AZ 511, leave your home with plenty of time to spare, and allow for plenty of rest stops along the way.

As you edge closer to Phoenix, which is halfway between Tucson and Flagstaff, you may be blown away by its beauty. From the Salt River Valley to the stunning elevation offering views spanning to the Sonoran Desert, the drive will be as pleasurable as the destination.

To get to Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix, I-17 or I-10 are usually the most desirable routes to avoid congestion, while 7th Street is often one of the busiest.

Parking areas

Chase Field is in one of the busiest parts of Phoenix. A baseball game with the home team of Arizona Diamondbacks makes it even more hectic. Not only will you need to allow plenty of time to get to the game, but to find parking for your big rig.

There are nearby paid parking garages, but many of these may have size limitations. If parking options near Diamondbacks Stadium do not fit your needs, plan to leave your Airstream or trailer at your campsite and use public transportation to reach the game.

Public Transportation

A luxury bus organized by Chase Field sometimes operates for home games from a mall in Tucson, and the Valley Metro Light Rail schedules are often in operation at the right time as well. Otherwise, arrange a taxi or rideshare service from your accommodation before the game begins.

If you’re staying at an RV park near Chase Field, then why not use your bicycle to get to the event? Bike parking is available in surrounding car parking areas, as well as outside the lobby doors and adjacent to Gate K at Chase Field.

Where to stay

Onsite

Regardless of whether you arrive in a small pop-up camper or a large Class A rig, you will not be able to camp on site at Chase Field while attending an Arizona Diamondbacks game. However, you can find RV accommodation near Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, that will tick all the boxes for convenience. You can then either arrange for public transportation to bring you to the game or find parking spaces nearby with your tow vehicle.

Nearby

Past Gilbert and Mesa toward the Usery Mountain Regional Park, it’s well-located for both the baseball game and leisure activities. You can also set up your campsite at Usery Mountain Regional Park or Tonto National Forest within 60 miles of Chase Field.

Getting around

After exploring the area’s natural attractions, such as the Phoenix Mountain Preserve and Cave Buttes Recreation Area, you will be used to exploring on foot. You can continue to do so once you’re at the baseball game!

The spacious facility offers easy walking opportunities to get from the vendors to your seat and the restrooms and various areas throughout Diamondbacks Stadium. There will be no need for private wheeled transportation such as scooters, skateboards, and similar, so you can pop these back in your motorhome for further exploring once the game is over.

What to pack

Clothing

Phoenix, Arizona, has a hot desert climate and is within one of the world’s sunniest regions of Maricopa County. As the baseball season progresses, the mercury rises, which means it’s worth being aware of expected temperatures before you hit the road. Pack your best supporter’s gear, but don’t forget to make sure you have a few light, breathable layers as well. A sunhat will be your best friend on your motorhome trip.

Gear

A clear bag policy is in place at Chase Field to keep all spectators as safe as possible. Stick to the sizing rules and adopt a “less is best” policy to speed through security screening. If you bring water with you, it must be in a sealed bottle. No glass or metal containers will be allowed, nor will alcohol, weapons, anything dangerous or distracting, backpacks, or small bags.

Pop your unnecessary possessions in your locked RV and travel light with your cash, payment cards, ticket, and mobile phone. There are also ATMs dotted around the facility for those who forgot to bring some money with them. Otherwise, you can also transfer D-Bucks onto your ticket for vendors to scan.

Health & Safety

Sun safety supplies are ideal for any RV adventure, but even more so in Phoenix, Arizona. From visiting outdoor attractions such as South Mountain Park and Preserve and San Tan Mountain Reginal Park, to attending any Arizona Diamondback baseball game at Chase Field, sunscreen and a shady hat are crucial.

Chase Field has a retractable roof, but it pays not to take any chances with the Arizona sun beating down on you during the warmer months of the year. You may also like to stock up your motorhome with bug spray, drinking water, a first aid kit, and any prescription medication you require.

Where to eat

Cooking

You might get some funny looks trying to bring your grill into an Arizona Diamondbacks game, but how you will cook your meals while camping near Chase Field is worth thinking about in advance. Ask your campground host about the use of campfires or fire pits, or bring your charcoal grill out of storage. Travelers often revel in the convenience of their onboard RV kitchen appliances.

Whether you fancy stew, camp-style hot dogs, soups, or even traditional campfire bread and S’mores, you can pick up everything you need at grocery stores within a five-mile drive of Chase Field.

Weather

Baseball season runs from March through to October, and temperatures in Arizona rise as the season nears its end. Fans can expect average highs of over 100 degrees-Fahrenheit at the season’s peak in June and July, and average lows of around 62 degrees towards the end in October.

Download a weather app on your phone to know what to expect, and ensure your cooling unit is in tip-top condition. It also pays to carry plenty of coolant and water on board and take regular breaks if you are traveling for extended periods.

Medical

No one expects to get ill or injured at a baseball game, but it can happen. For that reason, there are first aid stations set up in the northeast corner of the facility. Emergency medical personnel are available at all times during the baseball game. In an emergency, locate an official and dial 911. You can also travel to the nearest hospital within two miles of Chase Field, or a pharmacy within one mile in the direction of Estrella Mountain Regional Park.
