Introduction
Located on the northern shore of Lake Travis, the Camp Creek Campground offers back to basic camping in the Texan countryside. This picturesque area is a great holiday location for anyone who wants to enjoy fun on and in the water, with boating, canoeing, kayaking, jet-skiing, water-skiing, swimming, and even scuba diving into the depths of the emerald waters. Lake Travis is the longest of the six highland lakes chained together on the Colorado River, and it is also the deepest.
With 270 miles of shoreline and such beautiful landscapes, this 40-acre park in the heart of the Texas hill country promises solitude and relaxation in the wilderness. Whether you are fishing from the shoreline, speeding across the lake on water-skis, or just relaxing and enjoying the scenery; a trip to Camp Creek near Marble Falls has something for the whole family. Explore the beautiful meadows that are filled with wildflowers, where bluebonnets are a-plenty at certain times of the year, or cool off from the heat of the summer sun with a relaxing swim.
This is a peaceful location with plenty of privacy and shoreline frontage, with primitive camping available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Transportation
Driving
The Camp Creek Campground is located at 1221 County Rd. 343, Marble Falls, Texas. From Austin, take US 71 west to Highway 281 and travel through Marble Falls. From here, turn right onto FM1431 east, and then turn right again onto CR343 until you reach the entrance to the park. Alternatively, if you are traveling from San Antonio, take Highway 182 towards Marble Falls before turning right on to FM1423 east.
This area promises a scenic drive along wide open roads that are lined with an abundance of flora and dense trees. Driving conditions in this region are usually quite good, which may be due to the fact that there is a low chance of rain or snow throughout the year. However, the weather can be changeable, and we always advise checking the forecast when you are planning your trip. Furthermore, you must pay full attention when driving, as wildlife has been known to jump out on the roads. It should also be noted that if you are planning on arriving at the campground after 5 pm, you will need to let the park staff know in advance.
Parking
There is a paved parking lot at the entrance of the Camp Creek Campground, and each campsite will have enough space to park your vehicle.
Public Transportation
Due to the remote location of the Camp Creek Campground, there is no public transportation that will take you there directly.

Austin East KOA
This newly constructed campground is an excellent choice for those looking for a home away from home during their stay. With full hook-up sites, fast Wi-Fi, and a whole host of facilities and amenities, the Austin-East KOA site has everything that you could possibly need.
You will need to reserve your spot in advance, but this could be an ideal base for your family-friendly Austin adventure.

Shaffer Bend Recreation Area
The Shaffer Bend Recreation Area is one of the largest recreation areas in the county, and this lakeside park is an excellent choice for anyone who enjoys horseback riding and hiking. There is also easy access to the water’s edge, as well as adventure trails, wildlife protective areas, and corrals for your horse. Consisting of 523 acres, there are 26 campsites here, each of which has a picnic table, grill, and fire ring.
There are some vault toilets and one flushing toilet which is located at the entrance of the park. Reservations should be made in advance, and you can book online or via the telephone.
Camp Creek Campground Texas
With its miles of shorelines, secluded privacy amongst the dense pecan trees, and beautiful scenery, the Camp Creek Campground is a popular choice. Offering back to basics primitive camping year-round, there are sixteen different campsites here, which work on a first-come, first-served basis. However, while there are no reservations required at this campground, groups containing over 20 people will need to apply for a land-use permit. Moreover, if you are planning to stray at the Camp Creek Campground, it is important to note that check-in is at 3 pm and you must be checked out by noon.
The facilities are pretty basic, with just one vault toilet on-site and no potable water source or electricity. Campfires are permitted at this campground, but the area may be subject to a burn ban at any time. Moreover, quiets hours are from 10 pm – 6 am, and during this time there should be no excessive noise, including the use of noisy generators.

Off-Season
Hunting
Texas has an excellent reputation when it comes to hunting, with some suggesting that the Lone Star State is a hunter's paradise. Well, there is certainly some excellent hunting to be had around the Camp Creek Campground in Texas; with a variety of game species as well as wing shooting of migratory and native game birds.
When you are planning your trip, you must check out the local laws and regulations, and check with the park office regarding any current restrictions. Furthermore, as always, safety is paramount.
Play Golf
This is a popular vacation spot for those who enjoy playing golf, with several facilities spread across the north and south shore of the lake. There are both private and public golf courses available, and you will love the opportunity to spend some time on the greens amongst this beautiful scenery.
Just a 30 minutes’ drive away, the Lago Vista Golf Course is a public golf course with 18-holes and it is open to the public throughout the year. So whenever you visit, you can enjoy your game on a picturesque course, with the rolling Texan hills providing the perfect backdrop.
Fishing
Angling is a popular pastime at Lake Travis, with many fishing enthusiasts heading to the north shore for the chance to land white bass. The waters are teeming with fish here, with the chance to catch largemouth, Guadalupe, white, and striped bass, catfish, and sunfish.
There is excellent fishing to be had in the springtime, as this is when the largemouth and white bass spawn. Alternatively, all of the lakes around this area of Texas are popular with those who like to fish, with excellent options for bait, float and fly fishing.
In-Season
Water-skiing
Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro that can do all manner of tricks and jumps, you are bound to have so much fun water-skiing at Lake Travis. As you skim the surface of the river, trying your best to keep upright, you may even get the chance to appreciate your stunning surroundings. There are rentals available, as well as several water ski schools in the area if are looking to improve your skills.
Although water-skiing is a popular pastime here, many prefer visiting Lake Austin, which is around a 30-minute drive away. Here you will all manner of water sports, but it can get quite busy, especially in the summer.
Scuba Diving
With its 210 ft. depth, Lake Travis is the only lake in this region where you can enjoy scuba diving, making it a popular destination for both amateur and technical divers. This freshwater dive site is one of the best in the Lone Star State, with the opportunity to explore the bottom of this shore-accessible emerald–green lake to discover boat wrecks, sculptures, seas turtles, a shark, and a manatee.
If you are feeling brave, skilled divers may also wish to discover the deep underwater canyon wall, which plunges to depths over 100 feet. Experts advise you dress warmly, as the temperatures can differ quite significantly and the depths of the water can be up to 30 degrees cooler than the surface.
Boating
Explore the area from the waters of Lake Travis, and enjoy boating on the biggest lake in Austin. There is a boat ramp at the campsite, which is open twenty-four hours a day so you can hit the waters at any time. As well as canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboats, motorized boats are also permitted here.
With any of the water sports discussed, it is important to highlight that the waters of Lake Travis can rise and fall dramatically. As a result, you also need to be cautious of hazards that may occur just below the waterline, like sand bars.
