Become an explorer and get out of life’s hustle and bustle, in sunny California by packing your camper and traveling to Castaic Lake State Park! Located outside the Santa Clara Valley, the park is accessible to a variety of campers. A little over 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles, access the campground by exiting interstate 5 at Hughes Lake Road. If you’re traveling in your RV from Ventura, it’s an estimated 50 miles to Castaic Lake via Highway 126 and Interstate 5. Great for an easy stopover or a extended vacation, the park is not too far from nearby towns in case you need to restock on camping supplies. Once you arrive to the park, stop at the Visitor Center to check-in for your reservation and grab a park map.

Parking

There is an entrance fee in addition to your RV permit to this state park but with ample parking, you should have no problem finding a spot. Many of the camping spots do require RVs to back-in for parking. Camping sites are close to each other in proximity and some offer green hedges for privacy while others have trees that provide very little shade.

Located on the Lower Lake and Castaic Lagoon, the campground offers 60 asphalt spots so your RV won’t sink in the mud like other sites. Convenient to all lake activity such as fishing and boating, you will find that your site provides a fire pit, garbage can, and picnic table. Due to its location, this RV campground is a great place to set up your base camp to enjoy all the activities this state park has to offer. Reservations are required and visitors can make them in-person at the park office or call the park’s reservation line. You will need to make them at least three days in advance. This clean campground is a great place to enjoy a beautiful sunset and the perfect place to bring family and friends. Off-Season

Outdoor Fun at Castaic Lagoon

Enjoy time with family and friends for a perfect outing! Whether you are out enjoying sunbathing on the beach, swimming in the clear water, or having a family BBQ at a picnic site, it’s a great place to make family memories. There are bathrooms on site and fishing and boating is not allowed on this side of the lake. However, it is the perfect place to kayak or paddleboard during your vacation camping at the park.

Geocaching

Get out and have some adventure for treasure at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area. Learn more about this park through unique hiding spots that will allow you to explore different sections of the park. From the lake to search in the woods, geocaching is a great family activity to see the state park from a different perspective. Stretch your legs and get some exercise, as you hunt for clues and have fun no matter the season!

Bird Watching

Grab your binoculars and head out of the motorhome to see the various kinds of wildlife at Castaic Lake. With countless the variety of bird species throughout the park, you’ll want to bring your camera along too. The trails at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area offer easy access for Birding. If you want to learn more about the varieties of birds in the area, participate in a Bird Walks conducted by a trained naturalist on the first Saturday of every month. In-Season

Santa Colorita Run

Get out of the campground in your running shoes for an amazing experience as you participate in this community run! Held at the Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, pair fitness with color and fun for either a 5k or Half- Marathon. There is even a fun run for the kids! Wear something white and bring a pair of goggles as you may get ‘rainbowed’ during the event. Great for campers of all ages. Have a little fun, a free pancake breakfast, and a great community event during your stay!

Water Sports

Calling all adventure lovers! Have a day of fun exploring the two bodies of water of Castaic Lake by getting out on a paddle board, jet ski, or kayak! Swimming takes place on the lower lake from mid-May to mid-September while the Upper Lake is for sailing, power boating, and fishing. Have hours of fun as this area offers it all for visitors of all experience levels and boat rentals are available. Take in the majestic viewers of the lake or get in a few hours of exercise. Either way, enjoy the water today!

Fishing

Get outside for some peace and quiet on Lake Castaic while you fish for Smallmouth Bass, Trout, Bluegill, Crappie, and Catfish. Boat rentals are available as well as a tackle bait shop for all of your fishing needs. Get out on the water at night as the state park offers night float tube fishing - a unique experience only at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area. Fish from the dam, your boat, or the river bank, either way, the activity is a great way to start your day.
