You can rest assured that you’ll have a remarkable time at this lake park. You can also stop at the nearby Millwood State Park to enjoy great camping facilities and outdoor experiences.

There are plenty of things to do at Millwood Lake. If you’re an angling enthusiast, then you should set out to find out why this COE park is a popular bass fishing destination. If your interest is boating, launch from any of the ramps in the park and enjoy boating on the park’s waters. Game hunting is yet another fascinating activity in the park. Nature lovers and bird watchers will enjoy scenic views of the landscapes and vegetation in the park that serve as home to more than 300 bird species. Hikers discover the natural and cultural features of the park along the interpretive trails in the park’s areas. Picnicking and family reunions are also encouraged in designated picnic areas and shelters in the park.

Millwood Lake features 8 RV campgrounds that are available on first-come, first-served basis and by reservation. Full hookup, partial hookup, and no hookup options are available in the campsites within the campgrounds.

Transportation

Driving

Located on Arkansas 32, nine miles east of Ashdown in southwest Arkansas, Millwood Lake is easily accessible by RVs, trailers, and other motorized vehicles via State Highways 234 and 239. Vacationers who wish to visit this Army Corps of Engineers park can get RVs within Arkansas and drive here easily or get one close by in Hope. There are no driving restrictions within this COE park.

Parking

There are several parking areas available for RVs, trailers, and cars at Millwood Lake. Moreover, the RV campsites in this lake park features RV parking pads. Overnight parking is also available.

Public Transportation

There are no direct public transportation services to Millwood Lake.

Reservations camping

White Cliffs Park

White Cliffs Park, a COE campground in Millwood Lake, sitting on the east bank of the Little River, features 25 pet-friendly campsites that are equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs. All the campsites are available by reservation and provide excellent opportunities for fishing and hunting.

Located six miles south of Cowlingsville, this campground consists of amenities such as flush toilets, a boat ramp, a trailer dump station, a playground, and fish cleaning station. Showers are also available. There’s bank fishing access at the campground too.

This campground is open year-round but beware of alligators in the Little River.

Cottonshed Park

Cottonshed Park is a COE campground located about 8 miles southwest of Mineral Spring and Tollette, consisting of 46 pet-friendly campsites that are open year-round and are available by reservation. There are 43 campsites equipped with electric and water hookups, while the three remaining shoreline tent campsites do not have hookups. The maximum RV/trailer length that can be accommodated at this campground is 35 feet.

Some of the amenities and facilities at Cottonshed Park include a playground, picnic shelter, two boat ramps, pier, and fish cleaning station. Bank fishing access is also available.

This campground is great for fishing and lies in a secluded wooded area.

Beard’s Bluff

Beard’s Bluff COE campground lies 13 miles east of Ashdown, Arkansas, and features 28 pet-friendly campsites open year-round and available by reservations. One campsite in the campground is equipped with full RV hookups (electric, water and sewer), while 23 campsites are equipped with electric and water hookups only. One of the campsites does not have any hookups at all. RV length limit at this corps campground is 50 feet.

Amenities and facilities within Beard’s Bluff include flush toilets, trailer dump station, showers, boat ramp and picnic areas. A reservable overlook, and outdoor wedding chapel are also on hand in this campground.

This campground is sited in a wooded area on Millwood Lake just around the Spillway and Millwood Dam.

First-come first-served

Saratoga Park

Saratoga Park is an Army Corps of Engineers campground located in a wooded lakeside area, one mile south of Saratoga. This campground features 17 pet-friendly campsites that are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and open year-round. All 17 campsites in the campground are equipped with electric and water hookups for RVs, and can accommodate rigs up to 35 feet long.

In terms of amenities and facilities, you’ll find flush toilets, a fishing pier, showers, two boat ramps, and a playground in the campground. Picnic areas and shelters as well as bank fishing access are also available.

River Run West

River Run West is a COE campground in Millwood Lake that sits on the banks of the Little River Outlet Channel, 12 miles east of Ashdown, Arkansas. This campground features 4 pet-friendly campsites that are open year-round and available on a first-come, first-served basis. None of the campsites is equipped with RV hookups. RVs/trailers up to 35 feet can be accommodated.

You can fish from the banks of the lake here and amenities include vault toilets and a boat ramp.

River Run East

River Run East COE campground in Millwood Lake sits on the banks of the Little River Outlet Channel, ten miles east of Ashdown, Arkansas, and features 8 pet-friendly campsites that are open year-round and available on a first-come, first-served basis. None of the campsites is equipped with RV hookups. Rigs up to 35 feet can be accommodated.

Amenities include vault toilets and a boat ramp. Bank fishing access is available.

Paraloma Park

Paraloma Park is a COE campground located 1.5 miles south of Paraloma, Arkansas, consisting of 34 pet-friendly campsites that are open year-round and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. All 34 campsites are equipped with electric and water hookups. The maximum RV/trailer length that can be accommodated at this campground is 35 feet.

This campground lies in a secluded wooded area.

Beard’s Lake

Beard’s Lake Corps of Engineers campground is located about 11 miles east of Ashdown, Arkansas, and features 8 pet-friendly campsites that are open year-round and are only available on a first-come, first-served basis. Five of the campsites are equipped with electric and water hookups, while the three remaining shoreline tent campsites do not have hookups. The maximum RV/trailer length that can be accommodated at this campground is 50 feet.

Amenities and facilities at Beard’s Lake COE campground include flush toilets, fishing dock, and boat ramp. Bank fishing access is available, as well as short hiking trails with a boardwalk.

This campground sits on the banks of Beard’s Lake. Watch out for alligators as they are common in this campground area.

Seasonal activities in Millwood Lake

In-Season

Bird Viewing

Millwood Lake is home to well over 300 species of birds that are seen year-round. These birds occur within a 7.5-mile area of the park and include golden-winged warblers, bald eagles, and great white pelicans. The best places to view these birds are at Beard’s Lake and Beard’s Bluff. This is a major reason why birders are attracted from every part of the US to this lake park. It's interesting to know that at least 15 birds in Arkansas were first sighted in this Army Corps of Engineers park.

Hiking

Unique opportunities to enjoy hiking are available at Millwood Lake along Beard’s Lake Trail, a self-guided interpretive nature trail that offers hikers the chance to watch wildlife along a boardwalk. Rest assured, while hiking the trail you may see deer, alligators, squirrels, and wood duck. Look out for as many as you can see. What’s more, the trail passes through one of the best bird viewing sites in Arkansas.

If you visit the White Cliffs area, you can hike in an area that provides a tour of the cultural and natural features in this Corps of Engineers RV park, and is protected by the Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission.

Fishing

Millwood Lake area is home to a great diversity of fish species that make the park a premier destination for RV campers and vacationers that fancy angling. Some of the fish habitats in the area include Rolling Fork, Saline River, and Cossatot River.

Bring your tackle and fishing gear as you’ll find various bass species, channel catfish, bluegill, sunfish, drum, among others in the park’s waters. Millwood Lake is even noted as one of the hottest bass fishing lakes in the US. What’s more, many fishing derbies and bass tournaments take place in the park.

Off-Season

Picnicking

Millwood Lake is an amazing place to visit for picnics because this lake park features various picnicking areas within its boundaries. RV campers share meals with family and friends at any of these sites which offer resplendent nature views. Want to enjoy a memorable family reunion? Then you should make use of any of the two designated picnicking shelters in this park, both of which are equipped with electricity and barbeque grills. You’ll find them at Millwood Overlook and Saratoga Park.

Hunting

Millwood Lake is home to a wide variety of wildlife species that make hunting possibilities available for RV campers and visitors. Only certain areas in the park are open to public hunting. The hunting areas are marked on the Millwood Lake Map that hunting enthusiasts can pick up at the Millwood Project Office upon arriving at this COE park.

You’ll find wildlife like waterfowl, white-tailed deer, fox, mink, and rabbits. It is worthy of note that the COE teamed up with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and other volunteer organizations to manage the hunting and non-hunting areas in the park.

Boating

Covering more than 45 sq. miles, Millwood Lake offers exciting opportunities for RV campers and visitors to enjoy boating activities. Because the lake is prone to high winds, floating debris, and stumps, boating can be dangerous at times. Paddlers are required to wear life jackets when riding the waters.

Ten launch ramps are available around the lake to provide access for campers. There are boat lanes are designated on the lake to mark the paths to follow when navigating the lake. Remember to use caution.
