Introduction

Sitting within the suburban settings of northeastern Ohio in a panorama of rural countryside is Mosquito Creek Lake, a US Army Corps of Engineers park popular for outdoor recreation and a wide range of fun activities. This lake park, located two miles west of Cortland, Ohio, sits on the shore of Mosquito Lake and offers easy accessibility to campers coming in their personal or recreational vehicles.
At Mosquito Creek Lake, you can take part in a host of activities such as fishing, boating, wildlife, and bird viewing. This lake park is especially well-known for its excellent catfish and walleye fishing and offers challenging opportunities to skilled anglers. With several boat ramps and courtesy docks on the lakeshore, boating is a prime activity here. If you want to see bald eagles, hawks and other wildlife, you should visit the wildlife management area, where you’ll have your fill of these beautiful creatures. If you visit the park in winter, rest assured you’ll have fun and be able to stay active through ice fishing, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing.
Campsites equipped with full hookups and electric hookups are available at Mosquito Lake State Park on the southern end of the lake for use by RV campers at this COE park. A host of facilities and amenities are also available. A nearby attraction is West Branch State Park.

Transportation

Driving

You’ll have no difficulty driving up to Mosquito Creek Lake in your car, trailer, or RV. This US Army COE park is connected by various highways, major roads, and minor roads. Located two miles west of Cortland on Ohio 305, this park is easily accessible by vehicles. The campgrounds and areas of interest around the lake are linked by paved and unpaved roads. Vacationers without RVs or trailers can find equipment for rent at West Branch State Park and Warren.

Parking

There are plenty of parking spaces available for campers and visitors at and around Mosquito Creek Lake. Parking pads and lots are available at the campground and recreation areas. Parking is only allowed in designated parking spaces and overnight parking is available.

Public Transportation

There are no direct public transportation services to Mosquito Creek Lake.

Reservations camping

Mosquito Lake Campground

At Mosquito Lake Campground, there are 228 pet-friendly campsites available for RVs, trailers, and tents. These campsites are available by reservation and peak season is between April and October. You’ll find 20 campsites equipped with full hookup options (electric, water, and sewer hookups), 192 campsites equipped with electric hookups only, and 16 non-electric campsites in this campground.
Day use shelter, group camps, and yurts are some of the facilities in the campground. Amenities include showers, boat ramps, fishing piers and docks, playground, and picnic areas.
Maximum RV length in the campground is 45 feet. Quiet hours are from 10 pm to 7 am.

In-Season

Boating

Boating enthusiasts at Mosquito Creek Lake have plenty of opportunities to get out on the lake while on vacation at this COE park. What’s more, there are all kinds of boats available on the lake, ranging from small fishing boats, runabouts, sailboats, to cruisers of different horsepower. The stage is set at the park for you to enjoy your boating activity to the fullest. Moreover, launching ramps equipped with large parking spaces are available on the lake. Worried about boating supplies? Rest easy as a marina is also available too.
Waterskiing opportunities are also available on the smooth waters of the lake.

Fishing

If you’re looking for the perfect destination for fishing on your RV vacation, Mosquito Creek Lake is that place! Not only is this lake park renowned for its excellent walleye available in abundant quantities, bass, crappie, catfish, and northern pike are also plentiful in its waters. In fact, campers and anglers like to test their angling skills in the tailwaters of the lake just below the dam. So, come along with your fishing gear and challenge yourself at this lake park.

Wildlife and Bird watching

Wildlife and bird watching are popular activities among visitors and campers at Mosquito Creek Lake. There is a dedicated wildlife management area managed by the Ohio Division of Wildlife featuring fantastic wildlife and birds that sightseers will definitely love watching at the park. Migratory birds are particularly common, and you should look out for red-tailed hawks, bald eagles, and osprey. One of the rare reptile species in Ohio, the massasauga rattlesnake is also found in this area.

Off-Season

Recreation Areas

There are five recreation areas available at Mosquito Creek Lake, all managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers. These recreation areas located around the dam feature picnic areas equipped with picnic tables and grills, making them ideal for outdoor meals. Good parking spaces are also provided, in addition to the easy lake access offered for water-related recreational opportunities. In addition, there are boat launch ramps available at some of the recreation areas for boating enthusiasts to enjoy their pursuits.

Winter Activities

The onset of winter does not stop the fun and recreation at Mosquito Creek Lake. So, rest assured you’ll be able to enjoy yourself at the park when you visit in winter. Whether it’s ice fishing, cross country skiing, or snowmobiling, you can be sure you’ll have a good time. The icy waters of the lake yield wonderful catches of panfish and walleye for angling enthusiasts, while the snowmobile trails located along the shoreline of the lake offer memorable experiences for the trail users.

Mosquito Lake State Park

Visit Mosquito Lake State Park on the south side of Mosquito Lake to enjoy the recreational activities such as swimming on its lovely beach, hiking on self-guided nature trails, pet walking in designated areas, and many more. Equipped with facilities and amenities such as picnic areas and an amphitheater, you’ll be able to enjoy outdoor and public events at the park. Equestrian trails, as well as multipurpose trails, are also available at the park for use by campers and visitors.
