West Branch State Park is located in northeastern Ohio, an hour’s drive south of Cleveland, and between the towns of Akron and Youngstown. West Branch State Park lies on the western banks of the Mahoning River, a river that was impounded by the U.S Army Corps of Engineers in 1965, creating the Michael J. Kirwan Reservoir. Once this reservoir was constructed, the land was leased to the Ohio government for the use of West Branch State Park. The state park is famous for its miles of scenic hiking trails, its incredible small game and waterfowl hunting, and its array of water-based recreation on the banks of the Michael J.
