San Francisco Giants RV Camping Guide

As one of the top teams in professional baseball, a San Francisco Giants game at Oracle Park would be a fantastic RV vacation.

Event information

Gather the family in the RV and head to Oracle Park in San Francisco, California for a Giants game. Lou Seal will meet you there as he has been meeting fans since 1996. You’ll often see him posing for pictures with kids and other fans at the home games.

The Giants have been a Major League team since 1883 when they were called the New York Gothams. Yes, that’s right, they actually started out in New York. In 1886, they were renamed the New York Giants until they moved to San Francisco in 1958. And this is one of the winningest teams in baseball with more than 20 National League pennants.

Visiting San Francisco’s Oracle Park for a game is always a fun treat, even if you cannot camp at the stadium in your RV. There are plenty of awesome campgrounds nearby where you can leave the rig for the night. Being in San Francisco, you know the baseball park is amazing with its gorgeous view of the San Francisco Bay and beyond. Many people even come to Oracle Park just for the food, which is reportedly amazing, and they have such a variety, you would have to go to a dozen or more games to try it all.

Kids under two years old are usually free with a paid adult, and you will find many child-friendly areas of the park to give you a hand if your little one becomes restless or cranky. And there is plenty for the older kids to do at the park too with an 80-foot Coke bottle that has a playground as well as a miniature Oracle Park for the kiddos to play on while the adults watch the game.

Tickets

Fans can get San Francisco Giants tickets online or grab them at the gate when you get there. Prices range from under $10 to over $400 per ticket depending on the seats, time of year, and who they are playing. There are many times that you can get tickets free with special deals online or at the park, and you can also enjoy season passes that get you many extra perks.

Transportation

Driving

Right off of I-280, Oracle Park is easy to get to no matter what you are driving. You can get to I-280 from many other local roads, including I-80, US-101, and Embarcadero. Traffic can get pretty rough in Downtown San Francisco so make sure you get there early enough to make it to your seat on time.

Parking areas

Oracle has four parking lots, which include Pier 30-32, Lot 26 at One Bryant, Lot A at Pier 48, and Lot C just south of Lot A in the Mission Bay neighborhood. Tailgating is allowed at all parking lots, but large rigs are not allowed at Pier 30-32 or Lot C. The price for recreational vehicles is typically about $60 to $80, while smaller vehicles can park for about $40.

Public Transportation

The City of San Francisco has plenty of public transportation options, no matter where you begin. The San Francisco Muni Metro train and bus services have stations throughout the city and beyond. The N. Judah, K Ingleside, and T Third trains are the main ones, and the bus has the 45-Stockton Union, 30-Stockton, and the 10-Townsend.

Caltrain is also a great option, and they have services all up and down the peninsula. BART will provide subway services to the games from the Embarcadero or Montgomery Stations. There are also two ferries, but you may not be able to get a ride on those in a large rig. Check online or call for more details.

Where to stay

Onsite

Unfortunately, you cannot camp anywhere at Oracle Park for a San Francisco Giants game. While there are many parking lots, you can do some tailgating and hanging out before, during, and after the game, but you will not be allowed to sleep there. Luckily, there are several awesome RV accessible campgrounds nearby.

Nearby

The San Francisco area is ripe with state parks as well as private campgrounds. Golden Gate National Recreation Area has four different campgrounds to choose from within 20 miles. The campground at Candlestick Point State Recreation Area only has six sites but they are stunning. Angel Island State Park has a few campsites to choose from as well. With so many to pick from in the area, it is best to do your research and find the best one for your needs.

Getting around

Oracle Park provides free rides via shuttles from Pier 48, Lot A, and the park for those who need it. The service is provided from two hours before the games to an hour after the games. The park also has ADA accessible parking lots and seats with shuttles for those who need them. Contact one of the staff members at the park for help.

What to pack

Clothing

Pack your warm-weather clothes for the San Francisco Giants game because the weather is typically in the upper 60s. However, pack some cool-weather clothes as well because the lows can drop into the 50s. Comfortable walking shoes may be wise because you will be walking a bit no matter where you are parking or sitting.

Gear

Giants fans can bring in bags, purses, and backpacks up to 16 inches but know that they will be inspected. Soft-sided coolers are fine as long as you do not have any alcohol or glass bottles. Be sure to arrive early if you are bringing a bag because you may be held up for a bit during the search on the way into the gate.

Health & Safety

Be sure to bring lots of water so you can stay hydrated. Even if you are drinking other beverages such as soft drinks or beer, H20 is essential for rehydrating you in the summer sun. Sunscreen is also important as well as some bug spray to repel those creepy critters. Lip balm and sunglasses are also good ideas for sun protection.

Where to eat

Cooking

Be sure to bring a barbecue grill to cook on no matter where you are camping. Even at those places that boast utilities, it is best to be prepared for anything. A camp stove is also a great idea. Many people cook their meals ahead so they can just heat and eat on the go. There are plenty of grocery and convenience stores in town to pick up any supplies you may need.

Restaurants

Because of the plethora of food choices at Oracle Park, you will only need to head into town to eat if you want to explore San Francisco. If you do want to enjoy a meal out, there are several dozen places to choose from including sushi, BBQ, Mexican, Asian, Greek, and homestyle meals. There is even a unique pizzeria nearby with seafood and other items.

Vendors

The park is packed with food carts, restaurants, and concession stands. From bistros to bars and fast food to fancy food, you can find pretty much anything you can imagine and then some. Some of the foods Oracle Park is known for include the Orlando Cha-Cha Bowls, chowder, Organic Coup, crazy crab sandwiches, and the Doggie Diner. You may not be able to walk far without seeing a stand selling t-shirts, hats, and other swag and souvenirs.

Safety

Security

Expect a bit of a delay at the gates for a search if you have a bag or cooler, or if you set off the magnetometer. That is a unique screening tool similar to what the ATF use at the airports. So, you will be safe here. Check the website to make sure you are familiar with the items on the no-no list, so you don’t have to make a trip back to the rig.

Weather

California is known for its amazing weather, especially in the San Francisco area. The temperatures pretty much stay the same almost all year long. The low to high 60s are the typical highs, no matter whether it is January or August. The lows are not much different, ranging from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Rain and storms are sometimes seen during the summer months, so consider a weather app to help keep an eye on the local forecast.

Medical

During San Francisco Giants games, you will not have to worry if you are feeling ill or have an accident. The park has first-aid stations throughout as well as 24 automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Local ambulance service is also onsite for emergencies. While pharmacies are available within the city, it may be preferable to obtain what you need in advance or consider one close enough to the stadium to walk if needed.
