Hiking in the Moreau Lake State Park is one of the biggest attractions, with over 20 miles of marked trails. It offers some 14 different trails so that whatever your level of fitness, you can get out and explore the forests and creeks of the park. The Nature Trail offers an easy walk around the lake, covering just over three miles in a loop, but can be shortened with a shortcut by crossing the lake on the bridge. The four-mile loop, Moreau Lake and Overlook Trail also circles the lakes but includes some steep climbs to reach the viewpoint over the lake. The more adventurous will want to follow the trails that climb up into the hills overlooking the park. The Western Ridge Trail is around eight miles long and runs from the lake along the full length of the ridgeline before dropping back down to the Hudson River in the far west of the park. The large lake is great for swimming, with a large sandy beach and a gently shelving lake floor making it perfect for the kids. During the summer season, loungers and umbrellas can be rented from the park office. Fishing is popular at the lakes, and there is excellent fishing for both bass and rainbow trout. During the winter, ice fishing is allowed, and the park runs children’s ice fishing clinics to teach them how to cut the ice and fish.
