There are plenty of nearby destinations that visitors can explore while at Fort Tejon State Historic Park. Only a few minutes away in Bakersfield is the Kern County Museum. The museum is designed to tell visitors more about the history of the area and does so with the help of numerous exhibits. There are also restored structures that can be explored, such as a Pioneer Village and the Haggard House. In addition to this, visitors can view vintage neon signs, musical instruments, and various types of transportation methods, like carriages. There is also a vast collection of photographs owned by the museum that shows the changing history of the county, including photos by Carleton E. Watkins, a famous landscape photographer.
Take your motorhome on an hour’s drive to Los Angeles, and check out the Griffith Observatory. The observatory was built in 1933 as a way to encourage the public to become more involved in astronomy. While here, visitors can view the observatory’s stunning Art Deco architecture and even take a look into its Zeiss refractor. For those who hike to the top of the observatory, they’ll also be able to get unique views of the iconic Hollywood Sign perched on a nearby hill.
While in Los Angeles, don't forget to visit Hollywood Boulevard. The boulevard is one of the most famous spots in the city and contains numerous attractions, like the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Capitol Records Tower, and TCL Chinese Theater. Besides these, Hollywood Boulevard is packed with a variety of different shops and restaurants. There are also plenty of theaters lining the streets that show live plays and films.
In Santa Barbara, there’s Lotusland. Containing over 3,000 plants, the garden is situated on the former estate of Madame Ganna Walska, an opera singer. Visitors can trek down its winding pathways that are bordered by its many themed gardens, like the Blue Garden, Cactus Garden, and Insectary Garden. When you’re done touring the grounds, you could stop by its gift shop that sells calendars, books, teas, and garden sculptures.
Because of Fort Tejon State Historic Park's somewhat secluded location, gas stations and restaurants are sparse. Due to this, you’ll need to travel to a nearby city to fill up your motorhome’s tank or to grab a bite to eat. For those who would like to try some local food while here, enjoy grilled corn, seafood tacos, and sourdough bread.
