The main attraction at Chatfield State Park is its eponymous reservoir which encompasses over 1,500 acres. Boating and fishing are fan favorites here at Chatfield Reservoir, which is considered one of the best fishing holes in the Denver area. Grab a fishing license from the ranger station before casting your line in search of trout and bass. Two boat ramps are available for sailboats and motorized boats. Those without their own watercraft can rent a canoe or kayak from the Chatfield Marina. Jet skis are also permitted to explore the reservoir. Pack your bike in the RV rental and enjoy the 26 miles of biking trails that wind through the park. Novice bikers can test their skills on 12 miles of paved trails before stepping up their game and trying some of the unpaved trails. Bikers do have to share these trails with pedestrians and equestrians; yield the right-of-way to equestrian and slower traffic. Another popular and unique activity at Chatfield State Park is hot-air ballooning. Many people like to go camping at Chatfield State Park just to watch the hot-air balloons lift off. Licensed balloon pilots can bring their balloons to Chatfield for launching. You must have a recreational balloonist’s permit to be allowed to launch from the park. Some balloon pilots will even allow guests to ride with them on short hot-air balloon trips. The fun doesn't stop when the cold weather comes. Winter visitors enjoy snowshoeing, ice fishing, and winter camping at Chatfield State Park.
