Hiking is a must when RV camping at Lake Cumberland State Park, as it is one of the best ways to see some of the sights that the area holds. To make hiking through the beech and hickory forests easier, there are two trails to make use of. As well as through the undergrowth, the trails will take you up to a number of scenic overlooks. One trail is a four-mile loop around the Lure Lodge area, while the other is a one-way 1.5-mile trail which has a lake overlook near the park entrance. Lake Cumberland is known as the "Houseboat Capital of the World" for a reason. It is a paradise for all sorts of water sport enthusiasts as the marina offers 100 open slips, fishing boats, ski boats, pontoon boats and of course, houseboats. The lake is large and scenic, so there is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the views and soak up the summer sun. Many Kentucky records have been broken here by anglers, with brown trout, rainbow trout, striped bass and many other species available to fish, encouraging people from miles around to camp at Lake Cumberland State Park. Enjoy seasonal horse riding at the park, a great activity for both young and old, for those with experience and without. Make use of the marked trails which are 1.5-miles in length, ideal for a short trot through the forest. These guided rides through the forest depart every hour, starting at the park stable, where a guide will set you up with a horse and a saddle. This is a great way to introduce the sport for the whole family, as well as seeing the sights. The ride usually takes about 45 minutes and follows an easy, winding trail. This is one of the best ways to see the park on horseback, as personal horses are not allowed.
