Known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes,” Minnesota is a Midwestern state that shares its border with Canada and the sparkling waters of Lake Superior. It encompasses sprawling prairies in the west, deciduous forests to the southeast, and sparsely populated woodlands in the north while experiencing cold winters and hot summers.
After thousands of years of indigenous occupation by the Dakota and Ojibwe/Anishinaabe tribes, the 17th century saw French explorers, missionaries, and fur traders settling in the region. Immigrants began to arrive from Scandinavia and Germany in the 19th and early 20th centuries, with their cultural heritage still visible in Minnesota’s cities today.
With more than 70 state parks and recreation areas, Minnesota is an ideal place to rent an RV and head out exploring. Impressive Minnesota RV campgrounds await in the Chippewa National Forest and Voyageurs National Park, not to mention along the 72-mile-long corridor of the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.
