Cass Lake has a great reputation for year-round fishing. Anglers come from miles around to try their luck on the water, with many people catching walleye that are over 10 pounds, along with muskie over 40 pounds. There is also a range of other species that include northern pike, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, perch, and even the elusive burbot. There are a number of steep drop-offs and sunken islands that help to make the lake a fisherman's dream, drawing then to rent a camper near Cass Lake. Fishing is by no means the only draw to Cass Lake, especially when the weather is warm. Visitors can enjoy relaxing in the Norway Beach Recreation Area and exploring the surrounding Chippewa National Forest. Fishing boats, pontoon boats, canoes, and kayaks are all available and are a great way to explore some of the less accessible areas of the shore. Cass Lake has a number of islands that are great for paddling round, such as the larger Star Island, which has around 8 miles of shoreline and 6 miles of hiking trails.
