If you prefer the more snowy side of the mountains, check out Detroit Mountain Recreation Area. This is the place to lace up your skis and embrace the exhilarating Minnesota slopes. Leave the mountains and drive down to Greater Sucker Creek where you can see wildlife in its natural brilliance at this nature preserve. Then you can finish off the day at the Detroit Lakes Overlook where you can relax with a nice scenic view of the lake.

With tourism being so big in the area, Detroit Lakes has multiple places for you to park your RV for the night in and outside of the city. You could try Long Lake Campsite and RV Resort for it great location on the lake. Clean facilities, affordable rates, and beautiful views trademark this snug, but cozy RV park. Country Campground is another great family friendly park to check out. This park puts you five minutes from the downtown area, and while you lose the lake, these lots are quite tranquil in their own right. American Legion Campground is another spot that you could look into to park your rental RV inside the city.

While this area won't amaze you with the bright lights and adrenaline you might find in a more metropolitan area, Detroit Lakes has a lot to offer RV renters who can appreciate a more quiet and nature intensive form of entertainment. Tubing is an excellent way to spend your day as you drift down one of the area’s many bodies of water. Nature lovers should enjoy visiting local greenhouses and orchards for the varieties of vegetation. The host Renee was wonderful with communication and always answered any questions I had. She even left delicious homemade cookies and a fun surprise for our girls to play with while camping. The RV also was super clean and had so many items for us to use if need be. Very comfortable. We loved it and had a wonderful first time camping as a family.
