In the southern reaches of Alabama, the town of Enterprise has a proud history that makes it stand apart from other cities in the Gulf Coast region. The community of Enterprise started as an agricultural community, like many other cities in the Deep South. When the railroad came to town, the economy and population began to flourish. However, in the early 1900s, an entire crop was infested with boll weevil pests. Rather than let this get the best of them, the town worked together to replant the fields with new, different crops. This diversification helped Enterprise boom and expand into the city it is today. As you enjoy your time with your RV rental in Enterprise, you will get a sense of the hardiness of the city as you explore the local area and community.
When you book an RV in Coffee County, you get to explore Alabama the Beautiful. When you are in Enterprise, you will be within easy reach of the beaches and shores of the Gulf of Mexico, the forests and rivers of central Alabama, and everything in between. With so much to explore in this beautiful state, getting to see everything you want surely will be an “enterprise.”
Just a quick drive west of town is the Frank Jackson State Park in Opp. The state park sits around the shores of Lake Frank Jackson in south-central Alabama. At just over 2,000 acres, with the lake being half of that space, there are plenty of recreational opportunities to explore and enjoy. The state park is a popular spot with local anglers who try their best to catch bass and catfish. Every April, the park hosts a bass fishing competition where people try their luck and their skill to hook a big one. If you’d rather stay off the lake, but still enjoy the view, you can head out along the many hiking trails that wind through the forest.
Just over the southern border into Florida is the Choctawhatchee River Water Management Area near Bonifay, Florida. Just shy of 60,000 acres, the WMA protects and controls the land along roughly 30 miles of the Choctawhatchee River. The WMA is a great way to explore the Deep South from the water. You can set your kayak or canoe into the river and take off and enjoy the state-designated paddling trail along the picturesque river. You’ll travel through forest floodplains and several miles of virtually untouched Floridian wilderness.
If you’re looking to enjoy a day on the Gulf Coast shore, then head south Grayton Beach State Park near Freeport, Florida. Grayton Beach is the perfect distance to allow visitors from Enterprise an easy and relaxing day trip. You can lather on the sunscreen and soak up some sun, or spend your day swimming among the crystal-clear turquoise waves. You can also enjoy Western Lake, which provides the northern border of the park. Here, you can paddle in your kayak or canoe or even do a little fishing. Grayton Beach often ranks among the cleanest and most pristine beaches in the country, so if you want to spend some time on the coastal shores, this is the spot for you.
When you secure an RV rental in Enterprise, you might want to secure yourself a spot at a local RV campground. Luckily enough, there are plenty of options available to you in and around town.
Just on the eastern outskirts of town is the Enterprise RV Park. At Enterprise, guests will have access to full hookups, and Wi-Fi. There is also a swimming pool on-site.
A little farther northeast of town is the Ozark/Fort Rucker KOA Journey. At the KOA, you can enjoy full hookups for the Enterprise camper rental, restroom and shower facilities, laundry facilities, and Wi-Fi. Guests will also have access to a variety of recreational activities, such as a swimming pool and various yard games.
When you book a motorhome rental in Enterprise to explore Alabama the Beautiful, make sure you allow yourself a couple of days to enjoy the local community. There is plenty to fill your days as you enjoy all the area has to offer.
Sometimes those Southern thunderstorms pop out of nowhere, so when you need a rainy day activity, you can head to the art center in downtown Enterprise. You can simply walk in and be given space to paint your own pottery or canvas with whatever inspires you. If you know you want to schedule a visit, you can sign up for a class where you learn about how to get in tune with your creative self.
While you do need to call ahead and make a reservation, you can enjoy all that the petting zoo on the northwest side of town has to offer. A home for a wide variety of farm animals, here you can get close to sheep, chickens, horses, pigs, and even more. You’re sure to enjoy getting to meet these beautiful animals almost as much as they enjoy some behind-the-ear scratches.
Situated on the grounds of nearby US Army Fort Rucker, the US Army Aviation Museum is dedicated to showcasing the history of military aviation, which is only fitting because Fort Rucker is the largest helicopter flight training base in the world. You can walk through the hanger and see planes and helicopters that flew in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and even one of the “Blackhawk Down” helicopters. You’ll get to learn not only about the involvement of aviation in warfare but also about the individual planes’ and helicopters’ stories.
As you enjoy your journey through Alabama, be sure to enjoy a plate of fried or broiled catfish. This local treat is sure to refill your energy tank after your days of hiking, swimming, and exploring. And when the time comes to restock your supplies and refuel your Enterprise RV rental, you'll find plenty of gas stations and grocery stores around town.
